Discontinued in 2013, the VW Beetle has made a comeback to the Indian market, albeit in a new avatar. It shares its essentials with the Volkswagen Golf (sadly not available in India) and now comes with a 1.4-litre engine.
The market segment to which the Beetle belongs is quite small, and alongside it are cars like the Mini and the Fiat 500 (only available in the hot Abarth avatar). So if you’re sold on the Beetle, you won’t really take long before coming to a decision. It uses a 1.4-litre TSI engine that makes 148 hp and 250 Nm. The engine comes mated to a 7-Speed DSG transmission, and although not a primary selling point here, but the ARAI certified average fuel consumption figure of over 17 kmpl (17.68 to be exact) will ensure that you aren’t spending a lot on petrol.
Available in four colours, the vehicle comes loaded with features. Only one variant is available, and it’s priced at Rs 28.73 lakh, ex-showroom, Mumbai.
