Volkswagen Cross Polo gets a mild international refresh

German car making giant Volkswagen has revealed the facelifted Cross Polo hatchback ahead of its official unveil at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. The Cross Polo was launched in India last year, as a top-end, diesel powered crossover styled variant of the Polo hatchback. With the competition in India’s crossover-styled hatchback segment set to hot up in the coming months, the facelifted Cross Polo sold here could get a tweak or two to take on the upcoming Fiat Avventura and the Toyota Etios Cross.

The facelifted Euro-spec Cross Polo comes with the following new features:

  • 17-inch alloy wheels
  • Revised steering wheel
  • New seat fabric design
  • Revised gear knob and handbrake lever
While the facelifted 2014 Polo has received a few cosmetic changes in the form of the revised bumpers and headlamps, the Cross Polo is identical to the outgoing version. Like the facelifted 2014 Polo, the Euro-spec Cross Polo gets new turbo petrol and turbo diesel engines. Of the new crop of engines, the 1.4 liter-3 cylinder TDI turbo diesel motor is the most promising of the lot from the Indian perspective. Available in 75 PS, 90 PS and 105 PS states of tune, the new motor will replace the 1.6 liter TDI motor, and also act as a more fuel efficient yet powerful alternative to the 1.2 liter TDI motor.

Apart from churning out 210 Nm of peak torque even in the base state of tune, the new 1.4 liter diesel engine of the Cross Polo also gains a 6 speed, dual clutch DSG gearbox. The Polo is one of the best selling car models in Volkswagen India’s range, a reason that should motivate the German automaker to ring in the facelifted versions of the Polo and Cross Polo quickly. The German car maker will persist with facelifts and refreshes for the next two years in India, after which all-new cars will be launched. Click here for details on the facelifted Volkswagen Polo
