Volkswagen Jetta Sedan Facelift Launched in India

Volkswagen India has launched the facelifted Jetta, which is a minor refresh of the sedan. The car has been launched in five variants, spread across two engine options. The petrol powered variants use the 1.4 liter-4 cylinder TSI turbocharged mill that makes 120 Bhp-200 Nm while the diesel powered variants use the 2.0 liter-4 cylinder TDI turbocharged engine with 138 Bhp-320 Nm outputs. The petrol engine drives the front wheels of the car by means of a 6 speed manual gearbox whereas the diesel engined model is offered with two transmission options – a 6 speed manual and a 6 speed twin clutch DSG automatic.

The petrol powered Jetta is available in Trendline and Comfortline, with prices pegged at 14.15 lakh rupees and 15.67 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Delhi, respectively. The manual gearbox equipped diesel variants, available in Trendline, Comfortline and Highline variants, retail at 15.31 lakh rupees, 17.24 lakh rupees and 19.14 lakh rupees respectively. The top-end diesel variant equipped with the automatic gearbox is priced at 20.17 lakh rupees. In terms of price increases across variants, the facelifted Jetta is pricier by about 60,000 rupees for the diesel variants, and about 90,000 rupees for the petrol variants, something that isn’t justified given the minor nature of the facelift.

In terms of changes, the new car gets a mild nip and tuck job on the outside. On the inside too, cruise control is now standard on all variants while other changes include the new steering wheel, 3-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel, a new instrument cluster and a fatigue detection system. Just like the pre-facelift version, all variants of the Jetta Facelift are CKD assembled in India. The car’s bookings are now open and deliveries will begin soon. With the B8 Passat not arriving anytime before 2016, the Jetta will be the most expensive Volkswagen on sale in India for at least a year from now. Competition for the new Jetta will come from the Toyota Corolla Altis, the Skoda Octavia, the Hyundai Elantra, the Renault Fluence and the Chevrolet Cruze.
