Worst selling cars in September 2012

The month of September saw some cars that did well, others like the Chevrolet Aveo, Maruti Suzuki A-Star, Chevrolet Spark and Chevrolet U-Va etc were not so fortunate.

Here we take a look at the cars with the worse sales in September across segments.

Worst selling small car

Maruti Suzuki A Star

The Maruti Suzuki A-Star was the worst selling small car in September with a mere 71 units on the sales chart. The A-Star’s sales have dropped partly because Maruti has shifted focus to other cars like the Ertiga, Swift etc which are in higher demand. Over the past six months the A-Star sold just 3,649 units; an average of 608 units a month. The A-Star was followed by the Chevrolet Spark which sold 254 units in September. It has sold 3,472 units over the past six months, which is an average of 578 units per month.

Chevrolet Aveo U-Va

The Chevrolet U-Va was the worst selling premium hatchback and sold only 35 units in September. Over the past six months the U-Va sold only 436 units which is an average of 72 cars per month. Also read: Mahindra XUV500: Annihilating the premium sedan segment!

The U-Va was followed by the Skoda Fabia which sold 222 units in September. Over the past six months the Fabia managed to sell 2,164 units which is an average of 360 cars per month. The Renault Pulse (524 units), Honda Jazz (556 units) and Fiat Punto (597 units) were other premium hatchbacks which did not do too well.

The Chevrolet Aveo was the worst selling compact sedan with a dismal sale of 77 units in September. Over the past six months the Aveo has sold only 259 units which translate into an average monthly sale of 43 units. The Aveo was followed by the Mahindra Verito which sold 1,536 units in September. The Verito sold a total of 7,787 units over the past six months, averaging 1297 units a month.

The Mitsubishi Cedia was the worst selling sedan and sold only 8 units in September. Over the past six months the Cedia has sold only 89 units, averaging 14 cars a month. It was followed closely by the Chevrolet Optra Magnum which sold only 10 units in September. Over the past six months the Optra sold only 59 units which is an average of 9 cars a month. The Nissan Teana was the worst selling premium sedan and sold only 4 units in September. Nissan sold only 30 Teana’s over the past six months; an average of 5 cars a month. It was followed by the Maruti Suzuki Kizashi which sold only 12 units in September and averages 6 units a month. It sold 35 units over the past six months. The Hyundai Sonata (20 units), Honda Accord (23 units) and Honda Civic (47 units) were among other cars that did not do too well.

The worst selling SUV in September was the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara which sold only 9 units. Maruti sold only 17 units of the Vitara over the past six months. The Vitara was followed by the Mitsubishi Montero which sold only 13 units in September. Only 23 Monteros were sold over the past six months which is an average of about 4 cars a month. The Toyota Land Cruiser sold only 37 units, the Nissan X-Trail sold 50 units; the Mitsubishi Outlander sold 62 units, while the Pajero sold 148 units in September.
