Maruti Suzuki Baleno has been the best selling premium hatchback many times since it was first launched. Now, Baleno’s sales have passed 1 million or 10 lakh units. Maruti Suzuki sold 2.5 lakh units between May 2020 to October 2021. Here, are some of the reasons why the Baleno sells so well in the Indian market.
Ample Space and practicality
Baleno offers an ample amount of interior space. It is currently the largest hatchback that Maruti Suzuki makes. It has a wheelbase of 2,520 mm which translates to a good amount of cabin space for the occupants. The rear seats are roomy and offer a good amount of leg space and you can even seat three occupants at the rear for short drives.

The boot space is 339 litres which should be enough for a weekend getaway. You also get 60:40 split-folding seats in case you want to carry more stuff. The size of the Baleno is manageable for city use and it does not feel intimidating. The ground clearance of the Baleno is 165 mm which is enough for tackling bad Indian roads.
Feature equipped
Baleno might be the most feature equipped hatchback in its segment but it comes with most of the features that a person would use on day to day basis. It comes with a 7-inch SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, keyless entry, push-button to start/stop the engine, multi-function steering wheel, multi-information display, automatic climate control, LED headlamps and much more.
Very fuel-efficient
Maruti Suzuki offers the Baleno with two petrol engine options. Both have a capacity of 1.2-litres and come with four cylinders. The VVT engine produces 83 PS and 113 Nm. It is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic transmission. The manual gearbox returns a fuel efficiency of 21.01 kmpl and the CVT returns 19.56 kmpl as per ARAI.
Then there is the mild-hybrid DualJet petrol engine. It produces 90 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to only a 5-speed manual gearbox. It delivers fuel efficiency of 23.78 kmpl as per ARAI. Currently, no other premium hatchback is offered with a mil-hybrid powertrain.
Maruti’s after-sales service network
Maruti Suzuki sells Baleno through the Nexa Dealerships but the service network stays the same for Arena as well as Nexa vehicles. So, Nexa and Baleno also enjoy the largest network of sales and service networks. You would be able to find a service network of Maruti Suzuki in every city and sometimes even in rural areas. Because of this, people trust Maruti Suzuki as even if something breaks down, they will be able to find a service centre. Moreover, even if something breaks and you are not able to reach a service centre or call a tow service then there is a possibility that a local mechanic would be able to fix the issue.
Affordable spare parts and service
The service of Maruti Suzuki vehicles costs less than the service of vehicles from other manufacturers. Also, the vehicles of Maruti Suzuki are very reliable which is why people trust them. Moreover, the spare parts of Maruti Suzuki vehicles are readily available and are less expensive than the rivals.
