Gone are the days when people used to think that an automatic car meant it would be bad on mileage. With the advancement of technology, we now have automatic cars that actually are more fuel efficient than their manual counterparts. Here are 10 such vehicles:
The entry level Kwid was launched with a 1.0 liter engine last year and the main reason for that was to make sure that the vehicle could get an AMT option. Now the Kwid AMT is powered by a 1.0 liter engine making 67 Bhp and 91 Nm. While the AMT has a figure of 24.04 kmpl, the manual only delivers 23.01 kmpl, making the Kwid AMT more fuel efficient.
The Jazz is one of the only mid size hatchbacks to have an automatic who’s manual is less fuel efficient. While the automatic manages 19 kmpl, the manual manages 18.7 kmpl. The engine is a 1.2 liter unit making 89 Bhp and 110 Nm. The Jazz is known for its practicality.
The Ameo is the only compact sedan in this list that has a more efficient automatic as compared to the manual. While the automatic manages 21.73 kmpl, the manual manages 21.66 kmpl. This is mainly down to the 7-speed DQ200 gearbox which helps to keep efficiency high. Power comes from a 1.5 liter engine making 108 Bhp and 250 Nm.
Like the Ameo, the Rapid too comes with the same engine gearbox combination. This means that the automatic is more fuel efficient than the manual. While the DSG returns 21.72 kmpl, the manual only manages 21.13 kmpl. The engine is the same 1.5 liter unit which makes 108 Bhp and 250 Nm. The Rapid got a facelift late last year which made it more appealing to look at and it also got better equipment.
Surprisingly, the Vento DSG is a lot more fuel efficient than the manual, if you compare the same with the Rapid. In this case, the DSG manages 21.5 kmpl while the manual can only manage 20.64 kmpl. Like the two vehicles above, the engine is the same 1.5 liter unit and the gearbox is the same 7-speed unit which is what makes the vehicle so fuel efficient.
