The car market of India is about to witness a lot of action as a handful of new car launches are lined up in the remaining part of 2018. While there will be many facelifts/new variants coming our way, there will be also at least 16 all-new cars that will launch this year. The upcoming cars for India during 2018 include a wide variety of cars, ranging from small hatchbacks to costly imports. Let’s take a look.
New Hyundai Santro – August 2018
Yes, the Hyundai Santro moniker is about to make a re-entry into India. The new Santro will launch in August this year and will be based on the last-gen i10’s platform. It will also have an updated version of the old i10’s 1.1-litre engine. It’s expected to be one of the tallest and widest cars in the segment. Hence, expect a lot of interior space. Also, it will have class-leading features like a dashboard-mounted touchscreen system.
New Maruti WagonR – October 2018
The current WagonR is already on the last leg of its lifecycle and will soon receive a full model update. The next-gen WagonR will be based on a lightweight platform and hence, will offer a slightly higher performance and fuel efficiency. The engine will be updated to meet BS6 emission norms. Some say the car might even get Suzuki’s 660cc turbo-petrol motor. However, it’s a bit too early to expect any official info regarding the specs. The next-gen WagonR will not only look more modern but will also bring additional features.
Ford Figo Freestyle – April 2018
Ford will launch the new Freestyle in April this year. The Freestyle will be a pseudo-crossover based on the upcoming Figo facelift. It will also mark the market debut of the new 1.2-litre Dragon series engine. The Freestyle will go on to rival the likes of the Toyota Etios Cross and the Hyundai i20 Active. It will be followed by the launch of the updated versions of the Figo and the Aspire.
Honda Amaze – May 2018
Honda showcased the new Amaze at the Auto Expo 2018. It plans to launch the new car in May this year. The new Amaze will be a complete model replacement for the current Brio-based sedan. While the engines will be carried over from the current model, the Diesel motor will offer an optional CVT. The new Amaze will help the company fend off the heat from the new Maruti Dzire.
Toyota Yaris – April 2018
Another all-new sedan that is headed our way is the Toyota Yaris. The Yaris will become the first-ever C2-segment sedan from Toyota Kirloskar India. It will sit between the Etios and the Corolla Altis in the company’s product portfolio. The Yaris will launch with a petrol engine option only. However, its claim-to-fame will be some segment-leading features, which would probably translate into a pretty high price tag. Hence, the Yaris could become a more feature-laden alternative to the Ciaz, City, and Verna.
Mahindra TUV300 Plus – April 2018
Mahindra seems to be ready with the new TUV300 Plus and will launch it next month. The TUV300 Plus is nothing but a TUV300 that gets more seats along with more power. Under the hood of the longer TUV300 will be the same 2.2-litre mHawk 120 diesel engine that powers the Scorpio. This engine outputs a maximum power of 118.35 bhp along with a peak torque of 280 Nm. The motor will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. An AMT will be also offered.
Maruti Ertiga – August 2018
Maruti will launch the second-generation Ertiga MPV in India in August this year. The all-new Ertiga will be based on the lightweight HEARTECT platform and will have larger dimensions. It will also offer more features. Speculations abound that the Diesel motor could even get an optional AMT auto gearshift option. The new Ertiga will try to plug the void left by the last-gen Innova.
Mahindra S201/Tivoli – June 2018
Mahindra will launch a new SsangYong Tivoli-based SUV by the middle of this year. The new model will measure less than 4-meters in length and will go on to offer rival the likes of Ford EcoSport and Maruti Vitara Brezza. Next year, the company will even launch a larger version with three rows of seating. Expect powerful turbocharged engine and a long list of features.
Mahindra U321 MPV – October 2018
A direct rival to the all-new Ertiga will be the Mahindra U321 MPV. The U321 will become the first-ever premium MPV from Mahindra & Mahindra. It will come with a modern Diesel engine and will offer up to 7 seats. Also, expect the car to launch with several features. The U321 has been undergoing road tests for quite a while now and is expected to launch by Diwali this year.
Honda CR-V – October 2018
Also coming our way this year is the all-new Honda CR-V. The new CR-V made its public debut at the Auto Expo 2018. It will come with both Petrol and Diesel engine options and will even offer three rows of seats. Thanks to all this, the new CR-V is being expected to take the fight straight to the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
