December is the month of massive discounts. The reason is easy to see. Most car buyers stay away from buying in December as they’re worried about resale value of cars bought and registered in the fag end of the year. But buying a car in December can be extremely rewarding because of this. Also, automakers go on a discounting spree in December, and today we bring you 10 budget cars and SUVs selling for 1 lakh+ discounts.
The Creta’s arrival has made the Duster’s life (read sales) miserable, so much so that Renault is lining up a facelift in 2016. The impending facelift has made buyers wary of opting for the Duster at the end of the year. If you’re up for big savings though, the Duster can be had for an 81,000 rupee discount. Also, AWD variants of the Duster that were produced 6 months ago are selling for discounts of 1 lakh rupees. Also see – Duster AWD review
Maruti Suzuki S-Cross
The S-Cross is selling for discounts that have never-ever been seen on a Maruti car that’s under 6 months old. Some dealers in the NCR are selling the S-Cross 1.6 Diesel at discounts of up to 2.9 lakh rupees. In other parts of the country, the S-Cross is going for discounts between 90,000-1.5 lakh rupees. All in all, the Creta seems to have demolished the S-Cross, which itself is a fantastic crossover for those who seek great performance and handling. Also see – Creta winning, S-Cross losing.
Tata Bolt Diesel
The Bolt is yet another pricing blunder from Tata Motors, which got a touch too optimistic by initially pricing the Bolt squarely against the Swift. The car’s a poor seller now, and Tata is lining up big discounts to move stock. In fact, the Bolt Diesel is available at a discount of 1 lakh rupees, which includes a cash rebate of 40,000 rupees, an exchange bonus of 45,000 rupees and free first year insurance.
Tata Safari Storme VX
The Safari Storme just got a 400 Nm state of tune for the 2.2 liter Varicor turbo diesel engine, which now puts out 154 Bhp. This means that the VX variant of the older Storme, with the Varicor engine tuned to put out 148 Bhp-320 Nm, is now selling at a huge discount. If you are fine with a 5 speed gearbox, and the lower engine output, the Storme can be had for a discount of 1.4 lakh rupees.
A very practical compact crossover for Indian road conditions, the Fiat Avventura Diesel is now available for a discount of up to 1.5 lakh rupees. This makes the Avventura brilliant value-for-money, not to mention a steal at the discounted price. Also see – 20 luxury cars & SUVs coming to India
Fiat Punto EVO
The Fiat Punto EVO is a slow seller too, and that explains the 1.5 lakh rupee discount that the car is selling for in India. This discount is available on the best selling versions of the Punto – the diesel engine equipped ones. Enthusiasts seeking a powerful, sweet handling and well built hatchback now have a lot to cheer.
Fiat in general is in the doldrums as far as sales are concerned in India. Like the Punto and Avventura, the Linea sedan is struggling to sell here. A discount of 1.1 lakh rupees on the diesel variant is being offered. Even the T-Jet turbo petrol engined variants are on sale at 1 lakh rupee+ discounts.
All variants of the Renault Lodgy are selling at 1 lakh rupee discounts. The Stepway variants, built six months ago, are commanding even larger discounts, of up to 1.65 lakh rupees. Given the steep price difference between the Innova and the Lodgy, it makes great sense to bring home the Lodgy, given its better pep and mileage.
The Terrano is currently being offered with 1.2 lakh rupee discounts. Like the Duster, the Terrano is facing big heat from the Hyundai Creta. Sales have thinned, and the discount is aimed at perking things up for the compact SUV. Notably, the Terrano features exemplary ride quality and has strong turbo diesel engines.
The diesel rocket ship now has a very good discount going on it. Chevrolet is selling the Cruze at a discount of 1.38 lakh rupees. Now, that makes the 380 Nm of brute torque of the Cruze quite attractive from an enthusiasts’ perspective. Also see – India’s fastest affordable SUVs
