At one point in time, the hatchback market was the most important one and every manufacturer was working hard to make sure their portfolio had enough of them. While times have now changed and SUVs are becoming more important, the hatchback craze continues. Here are 10 of them that are coming in the next year:
Maruti Swift
Auto Expo 2018
The Swift is a hatchback that India has loved, since the day it was introduced in the Indian market. While the all-new one has been unveiled globally, the same is expected to make it to India at the 2018 Auto Expo. The car will feature LED headlamps, will be sportier to drive and will have much improved interiors, with the addition of a new touchscreen unit with Apple carplay and Android Auto. Power will come from the same 1.2 liter petrol and 1.3 liter diesel engine options. What will be new though is the fact that the company will bring in an AMT variant on both the petrol and the diesel, like on the Ignis which means you will have a lot more variants on offer.
Maruti Celerio
End 2017
Maruti launched the Celerio to replace the Estilo and the A-star. The car went on to become very popular, mainly due to the presence of the AMT gearbox. The Celerio has been on sale for 3 years now, without any update. It is now rumored that the company will be launching a new facelift for the vehicle by the end of the year. Maruti recently discontinued the diesel version of the vehicle and is now offering it only in petrol guise, with manual and AMT. The Celerio will now have refreshed looks and will most likely also get refreshed interiors also.
Maruti Alto
2018
Maruti has begun work on an all-new Alto already. The Alto is the company’s highest selling model and will have to be updated ahead of the 2019 regulation change. The company previously imported the Japanese Alto which is undergoing test in the Indian market currently. What is for sure is that the new Alto will be a lot more safer than the outgoing one.
Hyundai i20
2018
Hyundai has already begun work on the all-new Elite i20. The car has been on sale for a few years now with only minor updates. The vehicle will now get updated looks, something similar to the new Verna. The car will now get the new design theme and will most likely get refreshed interiors as well.

The Santro brand name is all set to make a come back to the Indian market next year. The Santro was a highly successful model for the company and was one which helped Hyundai grow in the Indian market. The all-new one will be a lot more stylish and will take on the Alto. The Eon, which is currently taking on the Alto is not able to dethrone it, something which Hyundai hopes to do with the Santro.
