Hyundai Creta is one extremely popular SUV in the Indian market. Since the car has been launched in the market, no other SUV in the segment could catch the sales numbers of the Creta and recently, the Korean manufacturer launched the facelifted version of the car. However, the segment will soon see stiff competition from rivals. Here are ten such cars that will be launched in the Creta segment in the coming months.
Renault Duster
Expected launch date: End 2018
The all-new Duster is a long-awaited car in the Indian market. Renault was expected to launch the much popular car soon after the international launch but the arrival of the Captur forced the launch to be pushed back. The new Duster gets a new grille and a repositioned windscreen that add a fresh look to it.
The interiors have also been thoroughly updated to give a modern look, which is something missing from the current version. The new car will also be more spacious. Renault may continue to use the current engine options with the upcoming Duster.
Tata H5X
Expected launch date: 2019
Tata will launch the all-new SUV, the H5X, in the market soon and the manufacturer has already started testing the SUV. Tata showcased the concept version of the H5X SUV at the 2018 Auto and it attracted a lot of enthusiasts. Tata’s head designer, Pratap Bose, claims that the production version of the H5X will retain 80% of the design from the concept that makes it very exciting.
It will be based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport’s L8 platform and will be the first such car that gets LR’s platform and Tata’s logo. The SUV is also expected to get a long list of features, similar to the recent Tata cars. It will be powered by the same 2.0-litre Multijet engine that powers the Jeep Compass but it will get a different state of tune.
Mahindra S201 LWB
Expected launch date: Early 2019
Mahindra is working on an upcoming compact SUV that will get a long-wheelbase. Codenamed S201, the SUV will fit in the Hyundai Creta segment but will offer seven-seats. It gets a monocoque bodyshell and will get the SsangYong platform.
Mahindra is expected to load the car with a long list of features and it will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. There will be a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will a develop class-leading 140 Bhp while the diesel variants will be powered by a 1.5-litre engine that develops a maximum of 125 Bhp. There will be no AWD option available with the S201 LWB.
Maruti Vitara
Expected launch date: Early 2019
The Vitara moniker will return to the Indian market in an all-new avatar. Maruti is expected to re-launch the Vitara SUV that can take the success of the Vitara Brezza forward. The Vitara has already been spotted testing in India and is on sale in the international markets. The Vitara will be the new flagship for the brand in India and will be positioned above the S-Cross in the market.
The Vitara is expected to be powered by a 1.4-litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine that churns out a maximum power of 140 Bhp and peak torque of 230 Nm. The diesel engine is likely to be a 1.6-litre Multijet diesel engine or a 2.0-litre Multijet engine. It has not been confirmed yet. It will get both manual and automatic transmission options. It is not clear if the car will get the 4WD option in India.
Nissan Kicks
Expected launch date: Early 2019
Nissan is expected to launch the all-new Kicks in the Indian market soon. The Nissan Kicks is a premium car that gets the same platform as the Duster, Terrano and the Captur. The Kicks will use the similar engine options as the Duster/Terrano in the Indian market to keep it affordable. It will be available with an automatic transmission but there will not be any 4WD option in the car.
Honda HR-V
Expected launch date: Mid-2019
Honda has been considering the HR-V for the Indian market for a long time now. The SUV will fill the gap between the WR-V and the CR-V in the Indian market. The HR-V will become the fourth vehicle in the R-V series when launched. After the launch of the WR-V, which has gained some popularity in the market, Honda is looking forward to launching the HR-V. It sits above the WR-V and BR-V in the lineup.
HR-V also sells in the Brazilian market just like the WR-V, and it is also built on the Jazz platform. It gets five seats and many premium features like electric sunroof, touchscreen infotainment and the touch panel climate control system. The SUV will be powered by the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that produces 115 Bhp. The diesel unit will be the same 1.5-litre i-DTEC or the 1.6-litre diesel unit.
Kia Trazor
Expected launch date: Mid-2019
Kia Motors will soon enter the Indian market and will debut with an SUV. Kia showcased the SP Concept at the 2018 Auto Expo and their first car will be based on the same concept. It is expected to get the Trazor name in the production form. Kia is planning to target the customers who are looking for premium products and the Trazor will have a long list of features to attract such customers. The engine details or the features of the upcoming car are not known but if the premium audience is a target, then we can expect a long list of features in the vehicle.
MG Motors Boujun 530
Expected launch date: Mid-2019
MG Motors has set up their base in India and the manufacturer will soon launch the Boujun 530 SUV in the Indian market. The car is a product of SAIC, which is the Chinese-parent company of MG Motors and in India, the SUV will be repackaged and rebadged. The SUV is expected to look as sharp as it does in China and the test car has already been caught in India. It will be powered by the same 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine that powers the Jeep Compass.
Renault Captur automatic
Expected launch date: End 2018
The Renault Captur, which is the most expensive vehicle from the brand in India right now, has failed to attract a significant number of customers. Renault does not offer an automatic version of the Captur even though the transmission is becoming more popular in the market.
Renault has ruled out an AMT option for the Captur because it may not align with the premium features of the vehicle but a CVT is expected in the near future. The car gets the same 1.5-litre diesel and 1.5-litre petrol engine that is used in the Duster. The automatic CVT is expected to be launched only with the petrol variant of the car.
Skoda VW SUV
Expected launch date: 2020
Skoda India has announced that they are taking charge of the Indian market and will lead the Volkswagen group. The European manufacturer is working on an all-new India-specific MQB-A0-IN platform that will become the affordable platform for the brand. Skoda will launch the first car in 2020 and an all-new SUV taking on the Creta is expected that will be sold under the VW and Skoda badge in India.
