10 new Hyundai cars & SUVs coming to India: Santro to Brezza-rivaling QXi SUV

Hyundai Motor India just completed 20 years in India. The South Korean brand is India’s second-largest carmaker and offers a number of products in the market. Hyundai India is pushing ahead and is planning to launch new products in the near future. Here are ten products from Hyundai that will hit Indian markets in the next couple of years.

Hyundai Santro (AH2)

Expected launch time: September 2018

The AH2 is the next product that Hyundai plans to launch. Hyundai has not yet officially named the product but in all probability, it will get the Santro moniker. It will be placed between the Eon and the Grand i10 and will take on cars, such as the Tata Tiago and Renault Kwid.

The upcoming hatchback will get the same tall boy design and will be based on the Hyundai i10 platform, which has been discontinued from India. The hatchback will be powered by a 1.1-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine and is expected to get an AMT automatic transmission too.

Hyundai QXi/Carlino

Expected launch time: 2019

Hyundai has increased its market share, with the Hyundai Creta, in India. Hyundai is yet to launch a product in the booming sub-4-meter compact SUV segment. However, they showcased a sub-4-meter concept, named Carlino, at the 2016 Auto Expo and the car has been spotted recently.

It will take on vehicles, such as the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza and the Ford EcoSport. The all-new SUV will be launched with an all-new turbocharged petrol engine. No further details are available as of now.

Hyundai Kona EV

Expected launch time: 2019

Hyundai will launch their first-ever electric vehicle in India, and it has been confirmed that it will be the Kona Electric Vehicle. The electric SUV is already available in international markets and is available in the hybrid powertrain too. However, the Indian market will only get the electric version of the car and it will be assembled in India to keep the cost low. Hyundai is expected to launch the Kona with the 64 kWh battery that can go up to 480 km on a single charge.

All-new Creta

Expected launch time: 2020

The Hyundai Creta has been quite successful in India, and recently received an update. Hyundai is now working on the second-generation of the Creta that will utilise the sister-brand Kia’s platform that will also underpin the upcoming SP model. The upcoming Creta will also get a 7-seater version. Even though the all-new Creta has been caught testing already, there are no clear pictures of the SUV available.

All-new Tucson

Expected launch time: 2019

The Tucson is Hyundai’s most expensive product in the Indian market at the moment and is popular for its feature-rich interior. The all-new Tucson has been caught testing and it is expected to get many significant changes. The all-new Creta will get a new grille, headlamp, tail lamp and many body panels. The new Tucson will come with either a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine or a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine. There will be a new diesel engine to keep up with stringent emission norms too.

All-new Elite i20

Expected launch time: 2020

The second-generation i20 was launched a few years ago and it still looks quite fresh with timely updates. However, the car is reaching the end of its lifecycle, and to keep the product oven-hot in the market, Hyundai is working on the all-new version of the premium hatchback. It will get a new face in sync with the new Hyundai family design. The car has been spotted testing in international markets and is expected to get a new set of engines too.

Hyundai Grand i10

Expected launch time: 2020

The Grand i10 has suddenly started looking outdated after the launch of the all-new Swift. With new safety norms in place, the Hyundai Grand i10 will get a full model change for India. It is expected to become much more premium than the current version and also get new features.

Hyundai Xcent

Expected launch time: 2020

The sub-4-meter sedan from the brand is quite successful in India. However, it is not as popular as the all-new Dzire, which is the top-selling car in the Indian market. The Xcent is the sedan version of the Grand i10 and will receive an all-new platform, new features and new looks with the model update.

New Elantra

Expected launch time: 2019

The Hyundai Elantra re-entered the Indian market after a brief absence and it is quite popular in its segment. The facelifted version of the premium sedan has already been caught testing in international markets, and will be launched in India next year. With the facelift, Hyundai will introduce sharper looking headlamps with new DRLs and a new grille that will make the Elantra much more premium. Engine changes are not expected with the update.

Micro SUV

Expected launch time: 2020

Hyundai India’s chief said in an interview that the brand is exploring the micro SUV segment and may launch a product in the segment at a later date. The all-new car will take on cars, such as the Renault Kwid and Maruti Suzuki Ignis in India. Details like platform and engine are not out yet.
