The sales of SUVs have increased significantly in the past few years. People are preferring SUVs over other body styles because of their versatility. SUVs provide a high driving position which makes it easier to drive the vehicle and they have high ground clearance which means that the driver would have to worry less about the bad roads or the speed breakers. Next year, we will see many new SUVs launching. Here are 10 of them.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

Maruti is working on a new generation of Vitara Brezza. It will still retain its boxy SUV design traits but there would be significant design changes. The interior will also be all-new. So, expect a new dashboard design, a new larger infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a new instrument cluster. Mechanically, the engine specs will stay the same. So, it will continue to come with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. However, Maruti Suzuki might finally upgrade the gearbox to a 6-speed unit.
Tata Punch Turbo

Tata’s Punch is already a success in the Indian market. It looks like a mini version of the Harrier. Due to this, it has a lot of road presence. It is currently the safest vehicle that you can buy in the Indian market. Tata offers the Punch with only a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. According to some media reports, Tata will be launching the Punch with a turbocharged petrol engine next year. The turbo petrol engine will be derived from the Altroz iTurbo. The engine will be more powerful than the current engine and will also produce more torque. It is expected that the Punch Turbo will be offered only with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny
Suzuki has started testing the 5-door version of the Jimny. It will essentially be a stretched version of the regular 3-door Jimny. We do not know whether Maruti Suzuki will make some changes to the design of the 5-door Jimny so that it is easier to differentiate. It is expected to come with the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 4×4 system.
Citroen C3
Citroen has unveiled the C3 officially for the international market. The new compact SUV will also be launching in the Indian market sometime next year. The design is the standing out feature of the C3. It is expected to come with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine which would be able to run on flex-fuels. It will be offered with a manual gearbox as well as an automatic transmission.
Jeep Meridian

Jeep Meridian will essentially be a 7-seater version of the Compass. It will get a slightly different front-end and the main differences will start after the B-pillar. The Meridian is still doing high altitude testing and is expected to launch in India by mid-2022. The Meridian might get a more powerful tune of the 2.0-litre diesel engine that is offered on the Compass.
Skoda Kodiaq
Skoda discontinued the Kodiaq when the BS6 emission norms were implemented. Finally, they are bringing back the Kodiaq with a facelift next year. The SUV will come as a CKD and will launch in January next year. The exterior of the Kodiaq now looks sleeker and there are some subtle changes to the interior as well. Kodiaq will no longer use 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine. Instead, it will come with a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine.
Maruti Suzuki S-Cross
Suzuki will unveil the new generation of S-Cross on November 25th. It is expected to come to Indian sometime next year. The 2022 S-Cross will be based on a new platform and will get a major design overhaul. It is also expected to get a strong hybrid technology. So, the current 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine could also get some updates.
Hyundai Creta Facelift
Hyundai has unveiled the facelift of the Creta in Indonesia. It now gets a new Parametric Grille that makes it fall under Hyundai’s new design language. The headlamps are also all-new and the tail lamps have been slightly tweaked. There are changes to the interior as well. It now comes with a larger 10.25-inch instrument cluster, it is the same unit that we have seen on the Alcazar. 2022 Creta now also gets ADAS. We are expecting the facelift of Creta to launch sometime next year.
Hyundai Tucson
The fourth generation of Tucson has been spotted testing in our country. It gets a Parametric grille also. The design is a big departure from what we have seen till now. The fourth-gen Tucson is already on sale in the international market. As of now, we do not know which engine will Hyundai offer in India.
Mahindra Scorpio
Mahindra is working on the new generation of Scorpio for quite some time now. It will retain its boxy styling but the dimensions of the SUV will grow. There will be new headlamps and tail lamps and the interior will also be all-new. It will be offered with the same petrol and diesel engine that we have seen on the Mahindra Thar and XUV700. The 2022 Scorpio is expected to launch in the first quarter of next year.
