10 really sporty yet super affordable cars, all under 10 lakhs!

Yes, India is finally becoming open to more sporty cars. Gone are the days when people only cared about fuel economy. People now want sporty cars to drive in addition to that. Here are 10 such cars:

Ford Figo Sport

Rs 7.22 lakhs (diesel)

Ford has just launched a new sporty version of the Figo, called the Figo Sport. The Sport comes with the same 1.5 liter diesel engine that is on offer in the normal Figo, however it looks a lot more sporty. The engine produces 99 Bhp and 215 Nm and comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

What makes this more sporty than the normal one is the fact that this has a re-tuned suspension setup to make it feel more agile. The car also comes with larger 15″ alloys that not only make the car look more imposing, but also aid handling. This is cetainly a pocket rocket worth having.

Maruti Baleno RS

Rs 8.69 lakhs

The Baleno RS is the first hot hatch produced by Maruti in India. It comes with an all-new 1.0 liter Boosterjet engine which produces 101 Bhp and 150 Nm. The engine is a 3-cylinder one and has been turbocharged, to give it more ‘oomph’. The RS comes with only a manual transmission though. Maruti has re-tuned the suspension on this to give it make it a little bit more agile. The RS takes on the likes of the Punto Abarth and the Polo GT TSI, cars you will be reading about below.

VW Polo GT TSI

Rs 9.11 lakhs

The GT TSI was a hot hatch that got a lot of recognition. Most hot hatchbacks in the Indian market weren’t successful, however the GT TSI managed to sell good numbers. The main reason was the 1.2 liter turbo petrol engine that produces 103 Bhp and 175 Nm. The added advantage is that this engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG, which makes it convenient to drive as well. The other plus point is the high mod potential of the GT TSI.

VW Polo GT TDI

Rs 9.21 lakhs 

The twin sister of the GT TSI, the GT TDI is a different animal. It is powered by a 1.5 liter engine that produces 108 Bhp and 250 Nm. This is the most powerful diesel hatchback in the segment currently. The main advantage of the TDI is the fact that it comes with a manual transmission, which makes it more involving to drive than the GT TSI.

Fiat Punto Abarth

Rs 9.91 lakhs

The Abarth Punto is the most powerful and the fastest hot hatch on sale under Rs 10 lakhs. The Abarth is powered by a 1.4 liter turbo petrol engine that makes 145 Bhp and 212 Nm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox which feels a little rubbery. The car has a responsive steering, but the suspension setup is a little off. While the Abarth has been lowered compared to the normal Punto, a lot more can be done to make it handle better. This can be taken care off in the aftermarket world with a lot of parts on offer for the Abarth.
