10 sub-10 lakh rupee cars that can do 180 Kph; Honda City, VW Polo, Fiat Punto Abarth & more

Top speed is something that is overlooked by many manufacturers due to the priority to the fuel efficiency. However, there are cars that can satisfy a speed-lover’s needs. Here are ten affordable sedans and hatchbacks below Rs. 10 lakh in India that can cross 180 km/h.

Abarth Punto

The Abarth Punto is the fastest affordable hatchback in India. The Abarth Punto was one of the first hot hatchbacks in the market. It is also the most powerful hatchbacks in the segment. It is powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum of 145 Bhp – 212 Nm. The engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox.

The Abarth Punto is quite quick and can reach a top speed of 190 km/h. It can do 0-100 km/h in 8.8 seconds, which is quite quick for a car below Rs. 10 lakh.

Volkswagen Polo GT TSI

The Polo GT TSI was one of the first cars to introduce the dual-clutch gearbox in the affordable car in India. The GT TSI is powered by a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces a maximum of 103 Bhp and 175 Nm. The dual-clutch gearbox also plays a role in making the vehicle quick. The Polo GT TSI can reach a top speed of up to 183 km/h.

Volkswagen Polo GT TDI

Volkswagen later launched the diesel version of the hot hatchback in the form of GT TDI. The GT TDI looks similar to the TSI except for the badge and is powered by 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine. It produces a maximum of 103 Bhp – 205 Nm. The GT TDI gets a manual 5-speed transmission and can go up to 180 km/h.

Abarth Avventura

Fiat launched the Abarth Avventura alongside the Abarth Punto in 2015. The Avventura is a crossover version of the car and comes with a lot of body cladding and rear hatch door mounted spare wheel to give it an SUV-ish look. The Avventura is also powered by the same 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine but it has been re-tuned to produce 140 Bhp – 210 Nm. The Abarth Avventura can go well over 180 km/h if given space and time.

Abarth Urban Cross

Fiat launched the Punto based Urban Cross last year after it attracted a lot of crowd in the Auto Expo. Fiat offers an Abarth version of the vehicle that is powered by the same 1.4-litre Turbocharged petrol engine. The Urban Cross looks much trendier than the Avventura on the outside and the inside. The engine produces a maximum of 140 Bhp – 210 Nm and it gets a manual transmission.

Fiat Linea 125

The Fiat Linea 125S is the most powerful car in the segment. It utilises the same 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that powers the Abarth Punto but it produces 123 Bhp – 208 Nm in the Linea. However, the handling characteristics of the vehicle make it a top choice for enthusiasts who are looking to buy a vehicle in this segment. The car can reach a top speed of 190 km/h.

Honda City I-VTEC

Honda has always been known for their strength in petrol engines. The Honda City has been one of the top-selling cars in the segment. The Honda City utilises a high-revving 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that develops a maximum of 117 Bhp – 145 Nm. The mid-size sedan can easily cross 180 km/h to reach a top speed of 182 km/h. Interestingly, the petrol version of the City is also available with CVT automatic transmission but it is the manual that can reach a higher speed.

Skoda Rapid MPI

Skoda Rapid may not be very famous in the market but it is an enthusiast’s delight. The mid-size sedan is powered by both petrol and diesel engine options but the petrol variant is quite fast. It can reach a top speed of 188 km/h. The petrol Rapid is powered by a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine that develops a maximum of 103 Bhp – 153 Nm. Skoda also offers a diesel version that is powered by the 1.5-litre, 103-250 Nm engine, the heavy weight of the vehicle restricts its top speed.

Volkswagen Vento petrol

The Volkswagen Vento is also liked by many car enthusiasts who find speed thrilling. The Vento is powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol engine that powers the Polo GT TSI and produces a maximum of 103 Bhp – 175 Nm, similar to the GT TSI. It gets a 5-speed manual and 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

Volkswagen Vento diesel

The diesel version of the Vento is powered by the same 1.5-litre diesel engine that is available with the Polo GT TDI. Unlike the GT TDI, the Vento gets a 7-speed DSG transmission. It can reach a top speed of 179.8 km/l.
