There are many options in the SUV segment in India that can help you do long distance travelling. However, there are a few affordable SUVs in the market that can cross well over 1,000 km mark on a single fuel tank. The mileage has been calculated after multiplying the ARAI claimed fuel efficiency with the tank capacity of the vehicles. In the real world, the mileage may become less or more depending on the driving style and road conditions.
Honda WR-V
Range: 1,020 km
The Honda’s WR-V is the most successful RV model in the Indian market. The vehicle was launched last year and since then it has become one of the leading sellers of the brand. The WR-V is offered with both petrol and diesel engine options and the diesel-powered WR-V can go well above 1,000 km mark on a single fuel tank.
Honda uses the same 1.5-litre diesel engine that it uses in all the other products like Honda City, and the Jazz. The four-cylinder turbocharged engine produces a maximum power of 99 Bhp and 205 Nm of peak torque. The official fuel efficiency is 25.5 km/l and it gets a 40-litre fuel tank.
Maruti S-Cross
Range: 1,204 km
Maruti S-Cross was launched in an updated version last year. The car came with quite a few changes on the outside and inside. Maruti also dropped the 1.6-litre diesel engine option and added SHVS mild hybrid system to the 1.3-litre diesel engine. It only gets the manual transmission option. The engine generates a maximum of 88/5 Bhp and 200 Nm. The hybrid system has increased the fuel efficiency to 25.1 km/l while it gets a fuel tank capacity of 48 litres.
Maruti Vitara Brezza
Range: 1,166 km
The Vitara Brezza is the highest selling UV in India. It is also the first sub 4-meter compact SUV from the brand. The car comes with only one engine and transmission option. The 1.3-litre engine option in the Brezza produces a maximum power of 88.5 Bhp and peak torque of 200 Nm. As per ARAI, the Brezza returns a maximum fuel efficiency of 24.3 km/l while it gets a 48-litre tank that takes the range to well above 1000 km.
Tata Nexon
Range: 1,054 km
Tata Nexon has become one of the best selling vehicles from the Tata brand soon after its launch. The sub 4-meter compact SUV is unique in the way it looks and also has a long list of features. The Nexon diesel can go well above 1,000 km mark. It is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces a maximum 108 Bhp and 260 Nm. The Nexon returns a maximum of 23.97 km/l and gets a 44-litre tank.
Ford EcoSport
Range: 1,196 km
Ford launched the updated EcoSport in late 2017. The entry-level SUV looks quite muscular and is offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel engine is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit that generates a maximum power of 98.5 Bhp and peak torque of 205 Nm. It returns a maximum fuel efficiency of 23 km/l and gets a tank of 52 litres that takes the total range to more than 1,000 km.
Hyundai Creta
Range: 1,282 km
The popular SUV, Creta is powered by three engine options, 1,4-litre diesel, 1.6-litre diesel and 1.6-litre petrol. Off all the engines, the 1.4-litre diesel engine is the most efficient. It generates a maximum of 88.7 Bhp and 220 Nm while returning a claimed 21.38 km/l. Creta gets a huge tank of 60 litres that takes the range to more than 1,000 km on a single fuel tank.
Nissan Terrano
Range: 1,025 km
The Terrano is a rebadged version of the Renault Duster but surprisingly it offers more fuel efficiency than the Duster. The Terrano is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine that is offered in two states of tune – 84 Bhp and 108 Bhp. The 85 Bhp version offers a claimed mileage of 20.5 km/l while the fuel tank capacity is 50 litres that take the claimed range to more than 1,000 km.
Renault Captur
Range: 1,018.5 km
The Captur is also based on the Duster platform and gets same engine and transmission configurations. However, the Captur also claims to be more fuel efficient than the Duster. The Captur diesel is powered by a 1.5-litre engine that is only available in the 108 Bhp – 240 Nm tune. It gets a 6-speed manual transmission. The diesel engine gets a claimed fuel efficiency of 20.37 km/l and the Captur gets a fuel tank of 50 litres.
Mahindra XUV 500
Range: 1,120 km
The Mahindra XUV 500 is one popular car in its segment. The seven-seater SUV is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine that generates a maximum power of 140 Bhp. The XUV has a very long range, thanks to its 70-litre fuel tank and 16 km/l mileage.
Jeep Compass
Range: 1,105 km
The Jeep Compass has become the highest selling product in its segment. The vehicle is powered by both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel engine option is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder motor that generates maximum power of 170 Bhp. The Compass has a fuel tank capacity of 60 litres and gets a claimed mileage of 18.42 km/l as per ARAI.
