12 affordable SUVs available with petrol engines; Ford Ecosport to Jeep Compass

There was a time when the diesel fuel was much more popular than today due to the price difference. However, in the current situation, petrol-powered vehicles are gaining popularity. We bring you twelve petrol powered affordable SUVs from the Indian market.

Ford EcoSport

Prices start from: Rs. 7.31 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Ford launched the refreshed EcoSport last month, and it is already in the top three number among the SUVs in India. The EcoSport gets all-new petrol dragon engine but discontinues the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The new EcoSport also gets floating type infotainment screen with SYNC3 connectivity.

The EcoSport is powered by a newly developed 1.5-litre petrol engine that churns out 120 Bhp – 150 Nm. There is either a 5-speed manual or a conventional automatic transmission on offer with the EcoSport petrol.

Tata Nexon

Prices start from: Rs. 5.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Tata’s first ever sub 4-meter compact SUV has become quite popular in the market. The Nexon boasts of unique styling and many first-in-the-segment features like tri-colour body and umbrella holder. The Nexon is powered by a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 108 Bhp – 170 Nm. It only gets the 6-speed manual transmission.

Honda WR-V

Prices start from: 7.66 lakh Rs. (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Honda launched its first ever sub 4-meter compact SUV based on the Jazz in India, and it has become quite popular. The WR-V is the best selling R-V model in India. It is also the only SUV to offer sunroof in the segment.  It gets 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces a maximum of 80 Bhp – 110 Nm. It gets a 5-speed manual transmission.

Renault Duster

Prices start from: Rs. 8.43 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

The Renault Duster is quite popular in the market. The SUV paved the success story of Renault in India. The compact SUV is quite famous in the market and competes with the Hyundai Creta. The Duster is powered by 1.6-litre petrol that churns out 102 Bhp – 145 Nm. 5 speed manual and CVT automatic gearboxes are available.

Nissan Terrano

Prices start from: Rs. 9.91 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Maruti Gypsy

The Gypsy has been around for a long time in the market now. The affordable 4X4 SUV is powered by a 1.3-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces a maximum of 80 Bhp – 110 Nm. A 5 speed manual gearbox is standard. The lightweight of Gypsy makes it a very capable off-roader and many enthusiasts love it for its versatility to operate in cold temperatures.

Honda BR-V

The rugged looking 7-seater version of the Mobilio is not a very popular vehicle on the market. However, Honda offers both petrol and diesel engine options with the BR-V. The petrol model is powered by the same 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine that produces a maximum of 117 Bhp – 145 Nm. 5 speed manual and CVT automatic gearboxes are on offer.

Hyundai Creta

Mahindra XUV 500

Prices start from: Rs. 12.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Mahindra recently launched XUV 500 with a petrol engine in India. The new launch brings down the starting price of the vehicle and helps it to compete with the likes of Jeep Compass. The petrol engine that powers the XUV is a 2.2-litre four-cylinder engine that generates a maximum of 140 Bhp – 320 Nm. A 6 speed automatic gearbox is standard.

Jeep Compass

The Jeep Compass has become quite famous in the market due to the affordable price tag and the brand value. Jeep recently started delivering the petrol variants of the Compass in the market. The petrol engine is a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine that generates 160 Bhp – 250 Nm paired with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. It is one of the quickest SUVs. Hyundai Tucson
