15 new SUVs to look forward to in 2017

In 2016, we saw a lot of hot, new SUV launches in the market. As 2017 is getting closer, we are set to see many more of such big, butch vehicles on the road. Here is a list of 15 new SUVs that will be launched in India in 2017.

Ford EcoSport

Expected price: Rs. 7 lakh

Now Ford has unveiled the all-new EcoSport that will be launched somewhere around the mid of next year. The new vehicle gets many changes like new LED DRLs, new fog lamp housing, new front grille, and looks inspired from the new Endeavour.

The car will also feature 8-inch touchscreen replacing the current small SYNC screen. The car will come powered by the same 1.0-litre EcoBoost, 1.5-liter TDCI diesel and 1.5-liter petrol. The engine will also get an advanced cylinder deactivation feature.

Tata Nexon

Expected price: Rs. 8 lakh

The Nexon will mark Tata’s entry into the compact SUV segment in India. Tata showcased the Nexon during the Auto Expo earlier this year and the company has already started testing the car. After the Tiago and the Hexa, Nexon could play a big boost in Tata’s line-up. The car will be powered by 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine and 1.5-liter turbo diesel engine in India. The Nexon will compete against the likes of Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza and upcoming WR-V in India.

Honda WR-V

Expected price: Rs. 8.3 lakh

While almost all the manufacturers have their products in the booming sub-compact SUV segment, Honda is yet to launch their product. Honda announced that the company is working on an SUV based on the Jazz platform. The sub 4-metre WRV will take on the cars like Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza and upcoming Tata Nexon. The new car will be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options and will be launched around the festive season next year.

Mahindra Scorpio petrol

Expected price: Rs. 8.5 lakh

Soon after the ban on the sale of diesel vehicles above 2,000 cc and more engine capacity in the Delhi-NCR market, Mahindra announced that they will launch petrol powered Scorpio in the market. Mahindra has already launched the mild-hybrid powered Scorpio.

The company is said to be developing a new petrol engine that will power the Scorpio in the future and the launch should happen somewhere around mid 2017. The company is said to be developing 1.5-liter, 1.6-liter and 2.2-liter petrol engines, and it’s likely that the Scorpio will get the 2.2 liter motor.

Maruti S-Cross

Expected price: Rs. 8.5 lakh

The most expensive vehicle from Maruti is all-set to get an update next year. The facelift model was showcased at the Paris Motor Show earlier this year and the car will be launched somewhere around the festive season. The new model gets an all-new grille at the front while the radiator grille also grows in size. It also gets new headlamps with projector lenses. The engine option will remain same with all diesel 1.3-liter and 1.6-liter options.

Tata Hexa

Expected price: Rs. 12 lakh

Tata will launch the replacement model of the Aria in form of Hexa next year. The Hexa has been developed from ground’s up and shares nothing with the Aria. The SUV comes with class-leading features and is termed as best Tata branded car made till date. It will be powered by 2.2-liter Varicor 400 engine with 157 Bhp-400Nm. The SUV will also get a choice of both manual and automatic transmissions along with optional 4WD with the manual option.

Mahindra XUV 500 petrol

Expected price: Rs. 12 lakh

The XUV 500 petrol will be launched next year in India. Currently, the XUV 500 is the best selling car in the D-Segment but is only offered with a diesel engine. Unlike Scorpio, the XUV 500 is yet to get the hybrid model too. Most likely, the XUV 500 petrol will be powered by 2.2-liter petrol engine and will be launched around the festive season next year.

Renault Kaptur

Expected price: 14 lakh

The 5-seater SUV will land in India next year to take on the likes of Mahindra XUV 500 and upcoming Jeep Compass. The Kaptur will sit above the Duster SUV in terms of positioning and is designed very smartly. The car will be powered by the similar engine that powers the Duster. It will be a 1.5-liter dCi engine producing a maximum of 109 BHP and 245 Nm of torque. The SUV will feature AWD system. To keep the price low, the car will be locally produced at Renault’s Chennai plant.
