SUVs are becoming one of the strongest pillars when it comes to the growth of the automobile market in India and in international countries. In the 2020 Auto Expo, the focus will be on the SUVs. While the Indian market is already becoming a hotbed of SUVs, there is many more vehicles line-up for the Indian market. Manufacturers will showcase or launch their all-new products in the Indian and most of them will be SUVs. But which SUVs should be your focus? Here is a list of fourteen SUVs that will be launched or showcased by the manufacturers at the 2020 Auto Expo.
Tata Gravitas is a seven-seater version of the Tata Harrier that will be launched in the Indian market. It will be the second car on the OMEGA Arc platform after the Harrier and will take on the likes of Mahindra XUV500. The Gravitas will continue to sell with the Hexa in the Indian market but it will not get the 4WD capabilities. The Gravitas will come powered by the BS6 compliant 2.0-litre KRYOTEC engine that also powers the Harrier. It will generate a maximum power of 170 PS and 350 Nm. Also, Tata is expected to introduce an automatic variant of the Gravitas in the market.
Based on the H2X concept, the Tata Hornbill micro SUV is expected to be showcased at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo in production guise. When launched, the Hornbill will sit below the sub-4 meter SUV segment and will provide an alternative to people who are in the market for a hatchback. It is designed in accordance with Tata’s IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy and will be built upon the ALFA platform. We expect that Tata would equip the Hornbill micro SUV with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that will be offered with both manual and automatic transmission options.
Skoda will launch the all-new Karoq in the Indian market in the coming months. However, the car will be showcased by the manufacturer at the 2020 Auto Expo. The all-new Skoda Karoq will be assembled in India and will enter the Indian market through the CKD route. It will be based on the MQB platform and will get a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine.
The all-new Skoda Kamiq will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in the Indian market. The all-new SUV will be based on Volkswagen’s MQB-A0-IN platform. This is a new platform that will be used for the Indian market to keep the cost of the vehicles competitive. The all-new Kamiq will be showcased at the Auto Expo. It will get only petrol engine options when it launches in the market.
Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace
Volkswagen will launch the long-wheelbase version of the Tiguan SUV in the Indian market that will offer seven-seats. The vehicle will get an extra row of seat, which will make it similar to the Skoda Kodiaq. The Tiguan AllSpace will utilise the similar 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine that powers the regular Tiguan in the Indian market. However, it will be BS6 compliant. The feature list is expected to be similar to the Volkswagen Tiguan.
The all-new Mahindra Thar is a much-waited car for the enthusiasts in the Indian market. The all-new vehicle has been spotted testing on the Indian roads under heavy camouflage and different versions of the vehicle have been spotted testing on the roads. The all-new Mahindra Thar will be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that will generate a maximum power of around 160 Bhp. It will get versions like hardtop and soft top.
The bigger and more intimidating looking Mahindra Scorpio will be launched in the Indian market in the coming months. The all-new SUV will be launched in the Indian market later this year and will be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. The all-new Mahindra Scorpio will be a major change and will look completely different from the current version of the SUV. It will get powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine and will offer a host of new-age features too.
Mahindra XUV500 is also due for an update in the Indian market for a long time now. The SUV will be launched with major updates in the Indian market and it may get sold as rebadged Ford versions too. The XUV500 will get an all-new cabin and will be launched with the same 2.0-litre diesel engine that will power the other Mahindra cars and SUVs. The XUV500 will get the manual as well as an automatic transmission,
Maruti Suzuki Futuro E Concept
Electric vehicles are all set to become a strong pillar in the growth of the market. Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer will showcase an electric SUV concept that will become a production vehicle in the future. The manufacturer has not revealed the details of the upcoming vehicle but it will be one of the most important cars from the manufacturer and will be launch in the coming years.
MG Hector Plus
MG Hector is currently one of the best-selling SUVs in the segment. The manufacturer is currently working on the 6-seater version of the car, which will get pilot seats in the middle row and will be more luxurious. The MG Hector 6-seater will get a similar feature list and will be powered by the same 2.0-litre diesel engine option.
MG D90 Maxus
MG Motors has received an extremely good response for their first vehicle, the Hector in the market. Now the brand will launch the all-new electric vehicle, the MG ZS EV. The brand will also launch the Toyota Fortuner rivalling Maxus D90 in the market. Reportedly, it will be a rebadged version of the Baojun RS3 SUV available in many international markets. The Maxus D90 will take on the likes of Toyota Fortuner in the Indian market and will also get the 4×4 system. It will get only a diesel engine option.
Haval, a part of the Great Wall Motors in China will launch their brands in India in the coming months. It will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta in the Indian market. It gets powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 150 PS and peak torque of 210 Nm. It gets a 6-speed manual and an automatic transmission as an option.
The Haval H6 will be positioned against the likes of Mahindra XUV500 and Jeep Compass in the Indian market. The all-new SUV will get a lot of features including cruise control, panoramic sunroof, a 9-inch touchscreen instrument and more. It also gets features like all-LED exterior lighting and looks quite premium.
The Volkswagen T-Cross will be launched later in 2020 and it will be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, which has been developed specifically for the Indian market. The cost-effective platform will also underpin a slew of cars from the Volkswagen Group in the future. The India-spec T-Cross will be longer in length than the international versions and will take on the likes of Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and Renault Captur in the Indian market. Even this SUV will get powered by the similar 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will produce around 130 Bhp. A lower-powered 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine is also expected that will generate around 115 Bhp of maximum power.
This will be the first SUV to be launched by the German automobile giant in the Indian market next year. The compact SUV will take on the segment that presently comprises of vehicles like Jeep Compass, MG Hector, Tata Harrier and Mahindra XUV500. Volkswagen will position the T-Roc at a premium in the Indian market and the entry-level vehicle will cost around Rs 18-20 lakhs. The vehicle will get powered by the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and there will not be any diesel engine option for the vehicle.
