The SUV market is all set to see some action this year. We will have close to 15 new SUVs and crossovers coming our way by next year. Here are those vehicles:
Honda will unveil their new crossover that is based on the Jazz next week. The vehicle will take on the likes of the Ecosport and the Vitara Brezza. It will be offered with a petrol and a diesel engine. The petrol being the 1.2 liter unit making 89 Bhp and 110 Nm where as the diesel one is the 1.5 liter unit making 99 Bhp and 200 Nm.
Both will come with only a manual transmission. Interms of features, the WR-V will get segment first features like a sun roof, on the top of the line version. The same touch screen system from the City is expected to be offered on the WR-V with navigation and Mirrorlink. It will not have Apple Carplay or Android Auto though.
Ford will launch the all-new Ecosport by the middle of 2017. The vehicle will feature a new design upfront, with a new grill, bumper and headlamps. The main change is on the inside though with an all-new dashboard and a new touch screen system that replaces the current cluttered dash. We expect the same 1.5 liter diesel engine and the 1.0 liter Ecoboost petrol engine to be on offer with the manual transmission and the 1.5 liter NA petrol engine to be on offer with the automatic version.
The S-Cross received a facelift in the international market a few months ago and the same will be coming to India later in the year. As per reports, production of the same has already begun. The new S-Cross gets an updated headlamp cluster, a new grille and a new bumper up front. It may also get a petrol engine with the facelift, given that the current vehicle only comes in diesel guise.
The Compass is expected to be launched in August and will be the cheapest Jeep on sale in the country. The Compass will take on the Tucson when launched with prices expected to start at Rs 16 lakhs. Power will come from a 2.0 liter diesel engine which will be mated to either a manual or an automatic gearbox. The Compass will come in both 2wd and 4wd variants. It will also feature Jeep’s updated infotainment system.
The Terrano is all set to receive a facelift soon. This facelift will see its looks being revised and it getting a new touch screen infotainment system, something that is already on offer on the Duster currently. The same 1.6 liter petrol and 1.5 liter diesel engines are expected on the Terrano. The diesel will come with the option of an AMT as well.
The Nexon is Tata’s answer to the compact SUV segment. When launched, it will take on the Brezza and the Ecosport. The Nexon will feature an all-new 1.5 liter diesel engine which produces 108 Bhp and 260 Nm. It will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. In addition to this, the Nexon will get a touch screen infotainment system and a standalone screen on the central console. The company has really worked hard in improving the quality and the looks of their products and it shows.
Mahindra is working on an all-new compact SUV, called the S201 which will take on the Brezza and the Ecosport. This new compact SUV has been given the S201 codename and has begun testing already. It will be based on the same platform as the Tivoli, but will look very different to it. The company will most likely put the 1.5 liter diesel engine from the TUV into the S201. It will also have a petrol option on offer. The S201 will be a premium compact SUV when introduced in the market.
Hyundai’s new compact SUV
Hyundai will introduce an all-new compact SUV which will sit under the Creta and will take on the likes of the Ecosport and the Brezza. The SUV is expected to be showcased at the 2018 Delhi Auto expo. While the company did show the Carlino concept previously, it will not be styled like it. Engine specs and feature details are not known yet, but being a Hyundai, it will surely be loaded to the gills.
