Maruti WagonR

The Maruti WagonR is about to get a generation-change. The all-new Maruti WagonR will be underpinned by a modern lightweight platform and will offer more features. It will also get an updated version of the current K10 three-cylinder engine that will comply with stricter emission norms. The new Maruti WagonR will also offer a higher mileage. Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has been busy readying an all-new budget hatchback. Codenamed AH2, it will likely be launched as the all-new Hyundai Santro. The new Hyundai Santro will be based on the last-gen i10’s platform. Our sources reveal that it will be more spacious than the last-gen i10 and will be slotted above the Eon in the company’s product portfolio.

Power will come from an updated version of the 1.1-litre four-cylinder engine that powered the earlier Hyundai Santro and i10. The new-gen Santro will become the first Hyundai car in India to offer an AMT. The launch should take place before this year’s festive season.

Tata Tiago JTP

Tata Motors and Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives are working on a performance-oriented Tiago. Dubbed as the Tata Tiago JTP, the upcoming car will be powered by the Nexon’s 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing a maximum power of 110 PS along with peak torque of 150 Nm. The Tiago JTP will also offer a performance-tuned suspension and transmission. Prices of the Tiago JTP are expected to start at Rs 7 lakh. The launch should happen by this year’s festive season.

Ford Figo

Ford India will soon launch a facelifted version of the Figo hatchback. The Ford Figo facelift will come with a handful of visual tweaks that will make it look more modern. The car will also have the new 1.2-litre Dragon petrol engine that debuts on the Freestyle. This engine offers 97 PS and 120 Nm. It is far more potent than the current car’s 1.2 TiVCT and will offer more power and torque. The engine will be available in both the Freestyle and the facelift.

Upcoming Cars in India in 2018 – Sedans

Maruti Ciaz

Maruti will launch a facelifted Ciaz this year. The new look Ciaz will have an updated front- and rear-end. It will also have a more powerful petrol engine that will replace the current 1.4-litre K14 motor. The changes are expected to make the car stronger against rivals like the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Toyota Yaris.

Tata Tigor JTP

Like the Tiago, the Tigor will also receive the JTP treatment. Exactly like the Tiago, the Tigor JTP will get its power from the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine from the Nexon. Even here, it will produce a maximum power of 110 PS and a peak torque of 150 Nm. The Tigor JTP too will get a sportier exterior and interior to complement the sportier looking exterior. There are very good chances of the Tigor JTP becoming the cheapest hot sedan in India.

Ford Aspire

Ford India has already suspended the production of the current Aspire and will launch the facelift in the months to come. The Aspire facelift will carry several visual updates and a handful of new features. Powering it will be the 1.2-litre Dragon series motor instead of the current 1.2 TiVCT. There is a chance that the Tigor will get the 1.5-litre Dragon engine for the automatic transmission variant.

Honda Amaze

It’s also larger in dimensions and comes with more kit. The new Ertiga will get the same 1.5-litre petrol motor that is expected to power the Ciaz facelifts. Hence, power will go up to 108 bhp.

Mahindra U321

Mahindra and Mahindra plans to launch as many as three more new cars this year. The U321 MPV has already been spied on many occasions. It will be available with 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines that will offer high power and fuel efficiency. As can be made out from the spy images, the MPV will get a cab-forward design that will make it look like most other modern-day MPVs.

Mahindra XUV700

Mahindra and Mahindra plans to launch the Ssangyong Rexton G4 in India by the end of this year. The upcoming SUV is likely to be available as the XUV700. It will go on to rival the likes of Toyota Fortuner and will be the most expensive Mahindra SUV ever.

Mahindra S201

Mahindra will also launch the Tivoli-based S201 later this year. The launch is expected to take place by the end of this year’s festive season. The S201 will rival the likes of Vitara Brezza. It will be powered by new-age petrol and diesel engines that will offer greater power, refinement, and mileage. Also, the S201 won’t look exactly like the Tivoli. Expect it to get a different set of headlamps, an updated bumper and the seven-slat grille that’s a typical design feature of every Mahindra vehicle.

Mahindra TUV300 Plus

Mahindra and Mahindra is very close to launching the TUV300 Plus. The TUV300 Plus is basically a longer version of the regular TUV300 that will offer more seats. Unlike the TUV300, which comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine, the TUV300 Plus will get a more powerful 2.2-litre mHawk motor from the Scorpio.

Mahindra KUV100 AMT

Mahindra will also launch the AMT transmission variant of the KUV100 later this year. The AMT will be available with both petrol and diesel engine variants. The AMT option will give the KUV100 a better chance against the Ignis. The AMT should help the KUV100 attract some more buyers.

Hyundai Creta

The Hyundai Creta facelift will also come with additional features like a sunroof. Engines are likely to remain the same. Even the prices might not see much of a change.

Ford EcoSport S

The Ford EcoSport facelift is about to get a set of new features and the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine. Basically, the company is about to introduce a new Titanium S variant that will come with features like a sunroof and sportier alloy wheels. Visually, the car will look sportier due to the more attractive alloys and the blacked-out grille. It will also have a black roof, black ORVM caps and black fog lamp housings.

On the inside, it will have an all-black colour theme. Powering the EcoSport S will be the 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine that was available with the pre-facelift version.

Jeep India plans to launch the Compass Trailhawk in the coming months. The Compass Trailhawk will come with the much-awaited 9-speed automatic transmission for the diesel engine. Powering the upcoming SUV will be the same 2.0-litre Multijet II diesel engine that powers the regular variant. It produces 170 bhp-350 Nm. The upcoming variant is a better off-roader than the standard variants. Features like Jeep’s Active Drive low-range 4WD, hill descent control, ‘Rock Mode’ for its Selec-Terrain 4WD system, 20 mm of additional ground clearance, and better Approach- and Departure-angles make it a more accomplished off-roader.

Honda CR-V

Honda will launch the all-new CR-V later this year. The new CR-V made its India debut at the Auto Expo 2018 and looks all set to shake up the market with a diesel engine option and seven seats. It’s noteworthy here that many have stayed away from this SUV owing to the lack of a diesel engine option. This time around, however, it will come with a 1.6-litre turbocharged diesel engine that produces 118 Bhp and 300 Nm. The 2.4-litre petrol engine will continue to be on offer.

Mitsubishi Outlander

Mitsubishi India looks all set to launch the latest-gen Outlander SUV in India. It has already commenced the pre-bookings for the new SUV. Much like the last-gen Outlander that was sold in the country, the new model will be available with a petrol engine only. However, it will offer a modern design, sufficiently capable off-roading hardware and premium features like an excellent audio unit from Rockford Fosgate.
