Snapshot: Japanese utility vehicle maker Isuzu has unveiled the D-Max space cab variant at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The Space Cab variant of the Isuzu D-Max is essentially an extended cabin version of the pick up truck. The cabin has been extended by 1.5 feet behind the driver. The additional space serves as a storage area, functioning as a boot of sorts on the pick up truck.
Pricing of the D-Max pick up truck’s Space Cab variant will be released shortly and so will be the availability details. As of now, Isuzu sells its D-Max pick up trucks and MU-7 SUV through 2 dealerships in India, one at Hyderabad and the other at Coimbatore. Plans are afoot to add more dealerships and spread Isuzu’s reach across the country. The D-Max pick up trucks and the MU-7 SUV are contract assembled through the CKD kit route by Hindustan Motors at Tiruvallur.
Mechanically, the Isuzu D-Max space cab variant remains unchanged. The 2.5 liter turbo diesel engine that powers the rear wheels of the pick up truck by means of a 5 speed manual gearbox churns out 136 Bhp of peak power and 294 Nm of peak torque. The D-Max comes with power windows, a power steering and air conditioning as standard kit across all variants.
