German luxury car maker BMW is all set to launch the all-new X5 luxury SUV, in its third generation guise in India on the 29th of May, 2014. BMW X5 has not been among the better sellers in the company’s Indian portfolio as the competition (read Audi Q7) has always had a lot more to offer. It was offered in 5 seat guise only and that was one of its major drawbacks, which BMW has taken care of in the 3rd generation model.

The third-generation BMW X5 will come with a 7-seat option alongside the 5-seat variant. The 2014 BMW X5 has grown in size compared to its last generation and at the same time has shed some weight as well. The X5 will be brought into India through the CKD (completely knocked down) route, and this could allow BMW to price the X5 aggressively.
The 2014 BMW X5, post launch will be priced at Rs. 68 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the base 5 seater variant and the Rs. 72 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the top end 7 seater variant. Dealerships have started accepted bookings for the car at Rs. 5 lakhs. Propelling the luxury SUV will be a 3.0 litre diesel unit that has a power output of 258 BHP and a peak torque rating of 560 NM.
BMW also showcased a base variant of the SUV, with the xDrive25d moniker at the Auto Expo 2014, and this variant featured a 2.0 liter turbo diesel motor developing 215 BHP-450 Nm. This model will be meant to rival the Mercedes Benz M-Class, an SUV that has been doing pretty well in the country for a while now.
The 2014 BMW X5 comes loaded to the gills with features such as the Pedestrian Collision System, Active Driving Assistant, Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Jam Assistant, BMW Night Vision, Parking Assistance, Blind Spot Detection and a lot more.
