Snapshot: French car maker Renault has unveiled the Kwid global compact SUV concept at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The Kwid is aimed at emerging car markets across the globe. As of now, Renault remains sketchy about production plans for the Kwid concept.
If this compact SUV does make it to the production floor, expect bits such as the scissor doors and the futuristic interiors to make way for much more toned down stuff. All in all, the Kwid concept is a mishmash between an SUV and a dune buggy.
The Renault Kwid compact SUV concept is powered by a 1.2 liter turbo petrol engine mated to a dual clutch automatic gearbox. Though designed to look like an SUV, the Kwid is an urban runabout at best, even in concept guise. We say this as the concept is front wheel driven.
A five seat layout with the driver sitting in the middle of the electrically operated front bench is quite unique. The Kwid gets LED lighting, electric opening doors and a “flying companion” are the other interesting bits on the concept SUV.
Talking of the “Flying Companion”, the device is a unmanned aerial vehicle that comes along with the concept car. The flying companion will serve as an “eye in the sky” for the Kwid, scouting traffic, taking landscape pictures and detecting obstacles on the road ahead. It can operate in autonomous mode as well as a manual mode controlled by a touch screen interface in the Kwid.
