Tata Motors has kickstarted the online booking process for its hotly anticipated Zest compact sedan. Prospective buyers can log on to a webpage Tata Motors has created for the online bookings of the Zest. Click here to navigate to the Zest’s online booking webpage.
The booking amount for the Zest is pegged at Rs. 21,000 and the online booking process is expected to make the initial stage of the purchase process smoother. The online booking webpage for the Zest indicates the nearest Tata dealers list, and the buyer needs to choose a dealer to whom the booking amount would be transferred.
However, the prospective Zest buyer has the option of only booking the engine type of the Zest, which is available with petrol and diesel engine options. Variant details, along with the corresponding prices, will be revealed only at the time of the launch. Zest buyers who have pre-booked the compact sedan online, will later be allowed to choose a variant.
The Zest compact sedan is an important product in Tata Motors’ comeback plans and will mark two major firsts for the Indian automaker:
1. The Zest will be the first Tata car to feature a turbo petrol engine.
2. The Zest will be the first diesel car in India to feature an automated manual transmission.
These two aspects will also give the Zest a segment leader status in the compact sedan market. The 1.2 liter turbo petrol engine of the car comes with outputs of 88 Bhp-140 Nm. The engine gets three engine maps – Sport, Eco and City, which the driver can select on the go. A five speed manual gearbox will be standard with the petrol motor.
The diesel motor of the Zest is the tried and tested, 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet unit available in two states of tune. The 75 Bhp-190 Nm state of tune uses a fixed geometry turbocharger while the 90 Bhp-200 Nm state of tune makes do with a variable geometry turbocharger. The diesel engine will get two transmission options – a 5 speed manual and a 5 speed AMT with Sport mode.
The Zest’s top end variants will receive twin airbags and ABS+EBD as the major safety features. A touch screen infotainment system designed by American acoustics specialist, Harman, that is also used to interface with the climate control feature is another stand out feature of the Zest. The car will hit the Indian market in early August.
