Edit: Ford has officially unveiled the 2015 Endeavour/Everest SUV.
The 2015 Ford Endeavour/Everest SUV is just hours away from breaking cover officially. Even before Ford officially reveals imagery and details of the 2015 Endeavour, the leaks have begun in full steam. New details and images of the 2015 Endeavour luxury SUV have surfaced onto the interweb. The 2015 Endeavour will make an India landing next year and will replace the current version of the SUV sold here.
The SUV will use the latest Ford Ranger pick up truck’s ladder frame chassis. Styling of the 2015 Endeavour remains true to Ford’s latest global design language, with the detailing spilling over to the hexagonal front grille, the likes of which we’ve seen in the EcoSport and the Fiesta Facelift. In India next year, this very grille will make it to the 2015 Figo twins and the Endeavour.
As far as new bits on the 2015 Endeavour are concerned, the leaf spring rear suspension layout has been given the dump for a more pliant, coil over spring layout with a Watt’s linkage connecting the two rear wheels. The interiors adopt a premium and a completely redesigned air. Ford has deployed a touchscreen infotainment interface and a clean dashboard design on the new SUV. In terms of mechanical features, the 2015 Endeavour/Everest SUV gains quite a few off road trick bits.
A Terrain Management System with normal, grass, snow, gravel and sand modes make it to the 2015 Endeavour. The system is similar to the one used on Land Rover SUVs and these cues don’t come as a surprise given the fact that Ford once owned Jaguar and Land Rover, before both automakers were acquired by Tata Motors. An all wheel drive with low ratio, and an ECU controlled torque distribution system also makes it to the SUV.
Along with these 4X4 attributes, a 29 degree approach angle, a 21 degree ramp over angle, a 25 degree departure angle, a 225 mm ground clearance and an 800 mm water wading depth should give the SUV plenty of cred for trail driving and the occasional beach jaunt. Other changes on the SUV include an electric power steering and revised 6 speed manual and automatic gearboxes.
For the Indian market, new turbo diesel engines with 2.2 liter-4 cylinder and 3.2 liter-5 cylinder layouts are likely to be offered. Ford will offer both rear wheel drive and four wheel drive options on the 2015 Endeavour. China and Thailand will be the major production bases for the 2015 Endeavour. For the Indian market, Ford will import CKD kits from Thailand, which will be assembled at its Maramalainagar factory, off Chennai.
