Ahead of the Paris Motor Show 2014, South Korean automaker Hyundai has teased the three door version of the 2015 i20, dubbed the 2015 i20 Coupe. The three door model is a sportier version of the 2015 i20 in terms of both styling and performance. Hyundai’s World Rallying Championship efforts and its test facility at the Nurburgring in Germany does seem to be producing a few results, at least is terms of more exciting road cars wearing the slanted H badge.

The i20 Coupe’s production version is expected to feature more horses under the hood with significant inputs from Hyundai high performance N division. In the CarToq i20 Elite review, the ample room under the hatchback’s bonnet found particular mention and the new high performance variant will make full use of this space to house a larger engine.
The hot, er, warm version of the i20 is expected to use the 1.4 liter Kappa petrol engine, albeit with a turbocharger bolted on to make for some frisky performance. The suspension is expected to get a firming up, to go with the higher performance on tap. Sales of the 2015 Hyundai i20 Coupe three door hatchback in Europe will begin next year. The car will sit at the top of the 2015 i20 range, in terms of price and positioning. More details will be revealed at Paris 2014, where the official unveil of the 2015 i20 Coupe will take place.
In India, high performance hatchbacks are few and far in between. However, the advent of the Volkswagen Polo GT Twins has perked things up in this segment. It wouldn’t be a bad idea for Hyundai India to consider doing a limited run of the i20 Coupe to gauge the response to the car here. For now though, the i20 Coupe is a car that’s an uncertainty as far as the Indian market is concerned.
