The Hyundai Sonata may not be a great seller in India but the sedan has been quite popular globally and is one of Hyundai’s bestsellers. The car is due for a makeover and the next generation model of the car has just been caught on camera at Hyundai’s South Korean production facility. Hyundai had recently released a teaser image of the next generation Sonata and if you see closely, the spyshot is pretty much is in sync with the teaser.
The 2015 Sonata features a slightly squared off front which looks elegant and aggressive at the same time. The front fascia of the car gets a blunt nose that lends character to the car’s design while angular lines and creases do their bits to make the car look sufficiently European, an aspect cars such as the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord have already embodied.
Coming to the profile of the car, it features a swoopy, coupe-like roofline. While this design could eat into the rear headroom, Hyundai must’ve worked a way around. The next generation of the Sonata will touch down on next month, at the New York Motor Show. The 2015 Sonata will have a modified version of its current platform as its underpinning. Under the hood will be a 2.4 litre turbocharged petrol unit while a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol motor will serve on the base variants.
While there is still no sign of the sedan getting a diesel engine, we hope that Hyundai gives the 2015 Sonata Fluidic the same 2.2 liter diesel motor that does duty in the Santa Fe SUV. The car is expected to come to India towards the fag end of 2014 or early 2015 with a price tag of around Rs 22 lakhs. In India, the Sonata will lock horns with the likes of the facelifted Skoda Superb and the Toyota Camry.
