Mitsubishi India has launched the 2015 Pajero Sport Automatic in India. The automatic, 4X2 variant SUV has been priced at 23.55 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Delhi, with the manual 4X4 selling at 23.80 lakh rupees. Along with the automatic gearbox, the Pajero Sport gains a revised front grille and new fog lamp surrounds that freshen up the front of the SUV. The visual changes also make it to the 5 speed manual transmission equipped variant, which also gets a Borg Warner shift-on-the-fly 4X4 mechanism.
The Pajero Sport AT (automatic transmission) is equipped with a 5 speed, torque converter automatic gearbox that drives the rrar wheels of the SUV. The 2.5 liter-4 cylinder turbo diesel engine on the automatic variant gets revised torque figures. While power, at 177 Bhp, remains unchanged, the torque rating sees a 50 Nm drop to 350 Nm. However, the automatic variant of the Pajero Sport is also 105 kilograms lighter. The Pajero Sport AT retains its 7 seat layout. In terms of notable features, a touchscreen infotainment unit that doubles up as a navigation console makes it to the SUV.
Reaffirming its commitment to the Indian car market, Mitsubishi has announced that more dealerships will be opened in the coming days. By March 2015, the Japanese automaker plans to have 48 dealerships in place in India, up from the current figure of 35. The higher number of dealerships is likely to translate into better sales of the Pajero Sport, considering that the low dealership reach is a major limiting factor of the SUV’s sales currently.
Both the manual and automatic variants of the SUV are assembled through the completely knocked down (CKD) kit route at Hindustan Motors’ Tiruvallur factory. Beset with financial difficulties, Hindustan Motors has transferred the Tiruvallur factory to Hindustan Motors Finance Corporation. This also means that the financial troubles of Hindustan Motors will not have a bearing on Mitsubishi’s India operations and the assembly operations of the Pajero Sport.
