Ahead of its official debut at this year’s Paris Motor Show, studio images of the 2015 Skoda Fabia hatchback have reached the world wide web. The official images of the car follow the slew of teasers that Skoda has been releasing at regular intervals in order to whet appetites of Fabia buyers and Skoda fans alike.
The car will be Skoda’s latest weapon in the mass market hatchback category, sitting above the CitiGo hatchback but below the Rapid notchback. The car will go on sale in Europe in a couple of months’ time given that serial production is just around the corner.
The car’s serial production will commence by the end of this month at Skoda’s Mlada Boleslav factory in the Czech Republic. The 2015 Fabia gets a new range of naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines, both with petrol and diesel fuel options. The new range of engines make the car significantly lighter and more fuel efficient.
In design terms, the 2015 Fabia follows Skoda’s latest, family design philosophy inspired by the Vision C concept. The car wears a new top hat, with sharper lines. However, the overall profile of the 2015 Fabia is similar to the outgoing model and there is a sense of continuity that merges with the newness of the car.
Though the new car is based on the PQ25 platform, which has been carried over from the outgoing Fabia, the Indian car market isn’t likely to host the 2015 Fabia as Skoda India plans to concentrate on the Rapid range and upwards. The 2015 Fabia is larger than the outgoing car in terms of wheelbase and this will translate into more room for the occupants and their luggage.
In terms of features, the 2015 Fabia is expected to get a host of infotainment options designed to appeal to the younger, more connected lot of buyers, the segment that Skoda is aiming for with its new hatchback. The interiors go upmarket with better quality materials used for a more premium finish on the inside.
