2015 Volkswagen Passat sketches, spyshots and specifications revealed

The Volkswagen Passat’s eighth generation version will be launched later this year, and the German car maker has just revealed sketches depicting the latest model. The 2015 Volkswagen Passat, from the released sketches, looks like it will be the perfect blend of elegance and aggressive styling. The sketches reveal that the sedan will sit lower than the current generation model and will look like a 4-door coupe to some extent. It will get bulging wheel arches and sharper front end styling.

The new Passat will be based on the versatile MQB platform that will be underpinning a wide array of cars from the the German marque’s stable. A 2.0 litre twin-turbocharged TDI diesel motor churning out about 240 Bhp of maximum power and 500 Nm of peak torque will be a brand new engine for the car. The gearbox will be a 7 speed DSG dual clutch affair. The engine comes across as a pleasant surprise as it is much more powerful than those the competition has on offer. This engine comes from the new MDB family of diesel motors that have been designed to suit the needs of the MQB platform.

The 2015 Passat would also get a plug-in hybrid version which would get a 1.4 liter TSI turbo petrol motor coupled with a 100 Bhp electric motor, thus taking the total power output to a healthy 204 Bhp. The range of the car on its electric motor will be 50 kilometers, and the car will be able to cover much longer distance on hybrid power.  There will be a slew of other variants of the sedan too which will be announced later this year. The next-generation, 2015 Passat is expected to break cover at the Paris Moto Show.

Meanwhile, the 2015 Passat was spotted recently in China without any camouflage. The car is known as the Magotan there. The only thing different is that it gets a slightly longer wheelbase as the Chinese love longer cars. The spyshots reveal how the production version of the 2015 car will look like. Volkswagen India is eager to launch the 2015 Passat here. The car will be imported into the country through the completely knocked down (CKD) kit route. Expect sales of the new Passat to start in India from early 2015.
