A leaked image, purported to be that of the next-generation 2016 Hyundai Elantra, has surfaced onto the interweb. The new image shows the 2016 Elantra taking a more mature styling approach, with the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 philosophy written all over it. The designers of the new Hyundai D-Segment sedan seem to have derived inspiration from the Renault Fluence and the Toyota Corolla.

The latter is the market leader of its segment worldwide, and some inspiration is expected, for the 2016 Elantra will be seeking to bag sales from the Corolla. The 2016 Hyundai Elantra is slated to make a debut in April 2015, with serial production for the South Korean car market to begin shortly after. As far as India is concerned, the 6th generation Elantra is likely to arrive here next year.

In the meantime, Hyundai could continue pushing the current, 5th generation version of the car, eschewing the facelift, as the all-new model isn’t too far away. The new Elantra will feature an all-new 1.6 liter T-GDI turbocharged, direct injected petrol engine as the range topping offering. The 1.6 liter turbo diesel and 1.8 liter naturally aspirated petrol motors offered on the current model, are expected to be carried over to the new model.
6 speed manual and the new 7 speed twin clutch automatic transmissions will be on offer, with the front wheel drive layout retained. In terms of dimensions, the 2016 Elantra could get larger in size, with more features added. The larger dimensions will be important in the D-Segment, whose occupants have been growing in size, generation to generation. The Toyota Corolla Altis is larger and so is the Skoda Octavia. Therefore, a larger Elantra will sit right in the middle of all the action.
