Maruti has started testing the all-new Ertiga MPV on Indian roads. The car will be launched here by the end of this year. It will be based on the HEARTECT platform, which it will share with the Swift and Dzire, but will have totally revised styling. Based on the spyshots of the MPV, here is a render of the 2018 Ertiga, and here is what it will look like.
As you can see from the rendering, the all-new Ertiga will have a much more butch front end. This will give the MPV a fresh new look, which is quite different from that of the Swift and the Dzire – both cars that have similar front end design. Maruti is also expected to add crossover elements to the Ertiga, making it more muscular than ever before. This will give the MPV a crossover stance, greatly expanding the vehicle’s buyer profile.
The new Ertiga is also expected to become more powerful. The 1.5 liter M15A petrol engine is expected to replace the 1.4 liter K-Series unit. This engine makes more power and torque – 108 Bhp and 138 Nm, and also is expected to get a CNG-petrol dual fuel option. This engine is expected to be offered with manual and automatic gearboxes. Maruti may also offer a newly developed turbocharged diesel engine on the car, the details of which are not known for now.
The new Ertiga will be a 7 seater, just like the outgoing model. However, the wheelbase could be stretched to make it more spacious on the inside. Moreover, the use of the HEARTECT platform on the vehicle is expected to make the new MPV much more lighter than the outgoing model. This will translate into better pick-up and fuel efficiency. In terms of pricing, the Ertiga is expected to start from well under Rs. 7 lakhs. However, top-end models may get pricier due to a bunch of new features added.
