2018 Bajaj Dominar sporty naked motorcycle launched in India

Bajaj Auto has just launched the 2018 Model Year Dominar sports naked motorcycle in the Indian market. The 2018 versions of the bike are available in three new colours, and a few other cosmetic changes. Mechanically, they remain unchanged from the 2017 models. The new colours on offer are: Rock Matte Black, Canyon Red and Glacier Blue.

Dominars in all three colours also get gold painted alloy wheels. Prices of the 2018 models are unchanged. The non-ABS version is priced at Rs. 1.42 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi while the ABS version is priced at Rs. 1.56 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. The bikes will reach showrooms in the coming week, and bookings are already open.

The Dominar is powered by a 373cc, four stroke liquid cooled engine. This single cylinder engine produces a maximum power of 35 PS while peak torque is 35 Nm. The bike gets a four valve head with a single overhead camshaft, and fuel injection is standard.

A 6 speed manual gearbox is also standard and so is a slipper clutch – another safety feature that prevents wheel-lock induced skidding upon hard braking. Both wheels operate with disc brakes and ABS is an optional extra. Weighing 180 Kgs, the Dominar 400 is a heavy bike but has enough power and torque to comfortably do speeds of over 145 Kph.

Bajaj Auto builds the Dominar 400 at its Chakan factory, near Pune, and apart from selling it in India, sells it in a range of global markets. The Dominar is one of the few Indian bikes whose exports are almost as high as their domestic sales. In the coming months, Bajaj plans to ramp up Dominar sales by targeting smaller cities and towns of India. The company also plans to introduce an adventure touring version of the Dominar in future. However, an exact timeline for that model’s launch has not been revealed.
