Hero Motocorp has just launched the 2018 model year Super Splendor 125 in India. The commuter motorcycle is the flagship variant of the highly successful Splendor range, and is more powerful than all other Splendors sold in India. The motorcycle, which was updated in December 2017 and revealed to the press, is now finally in showrooms. Prices start from Rs. Rs. 57,190 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The motorcycle is available in five paint schemes – CB Red, Heavy Grey, Black with Fiery Red, Black with Electric Purple and Graphite Black. Key changes include new graphics, a new seat and an LED tail lamp. The Super Splendor is powered by a 125cc, four stroke single cylinder engine.
This engine is essentially the bored out version of the 98cc Splendor’s motor, first introduced on the Honda Cub step-thru. The latest engine has its basic, undersquare, horizontally inclined design inspired by Soichiro Honda’s engine design for the Honda Cub. Known as a bullet proof engine, the one on the Super Splendor makes 11 BHP of peak power @ 7,500 rpm and 11 Nm of peak torque @ 6,500 rpm.
A 4-speed foot operated, manual transmission is standard. The 2018 Super Splendor has the same cycle parts of the older model. This includes alloy wheels, tubeless tyres, 130mm drum brakes on both wheels, telescopic front forks, gas charged rear shock absorbers and a tubular double cradle frame.
Other key details of the motorcycle are its 125 kilogram kerb weight and a 13 liter fuel tank, which gives it nearly 800 kilometers of range per tank. In terms of dimensions, the motorcycle measures 1,995 mm in length, 735 mm in width, 1,095 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 1,265 mm. The seat height is a comfortable 785 mm, indicating that most Indian men won’t have a problem getting both feet down comfortably. The Splendor line-up is India’s highest selling commuter motorcycle range. It’s also exported to many countries around the world.
