2018 Jeep Wrangler SUV unveiled; Coming to India

American SUV maker Jeep has unveiled the all-new 2018 Wrangler off roader. The SUV will also be launched in India. The official international launch of the 2018 Wrangler will happen next month, at the Los Angeles Motor Show. Jeep has been selling the Wrangler from 1986.

The latest version of the SUV is the fourth generation model, with the codename JL. Previous code-names include the YJ, TJ and JK. Jeep has not revealed the exact timeline for the Wrangler JL’s India launch. We expect it to land here sometime in 2019.

The all-new Wrangler features a complete redesign. Both the exteriors and mechanicals of the vehicle have received a major upgrade. The new vehicle features subtle style tweaks that make it look fresh while retaining the traditional Wrangler look. The belt line has been lowered to give the cabin a more airy feel.

Removable doors, removable hardtop, hardtop and soft-top options continue to be offered on the SUV. It will also get the famed Trailhawk version that is oriented towards off roading. The 2018 Wrangler will be offered in 3 door, short wheelbase and 5 door, long wheelbase variants.

The interiors of the new SUV have also been updated with new features and the latest infotainment options. The vehicle gets a 277mm ground clearance and rides on five link, coil sprung suspension both at the front and the rear. Two new, four cylinder engines have been added.

The new petrol is a 2 liter turbocharged unit with 270 Bhp and 400 Nm. The new diesel is a 2.2 liter turbocharged unit with 197 Bhp-450 Nm. Jeep also offers a 3.6 liter V6 petrol engine with 285 Bhp-353 Nm, and a 3 liter V6 turbocharged diesel with 240 Bhp-570 Nm. 6 speed manual and 8 speed gearbox options are offered, while a four wheel drive transfer case is standard on all variants. The 2018 Wrangler will be imported into India as a completely built unit. Expect pricing to start from above Rs. 60 lakhs.
