The 2018 Jeep Wrangler has been caught testing in Goa, India before launch. This is the first time the iconic SUV has been caught testing on the Indian roads. The new updated SUV was unveiled at the LA Motor Show last year and is expected to be launched in the second half in India. The Wrangler spotted in India is the 4-door version.
The 4th generation of the vehicle gets slight changes in the styling department. To start with, the grille has been tweaked slightly. The bracket slats now have a slight curving to match the shape of the headlamps of the vehicle. The headlamps themselves have grown bigger and are full-LED. There are LED daytime running lamps placed on the fenders that add a masculine look. Even the fog lamps, turn signals and tail lamps are now LEDs.
Jeep has also increased the size of the windows by moving the beltline slightly lower than the previous position. Overall, the shape of the vehicle remains the same and it still carries that iconic silhouette that gives it an identity of its own. The A-pillar now stays in place when the windshield is folded down and it has also become more angular to provide better aerodynamics.
The interiors remain identical to the previous generation Wrangler. However, new equipment is in place to make the cage more convenient and comfortable. The driver console system gets a 7-inch TFT LED display that can be configured in more than 100 ways. The infotainment system is an 8.4-inch UConnect touchscreen system with the weather-proof speaker system. The car also gets 12V accessory outlets and a 115V AC auxiliary power outlet to supply power to various devices.
In the international markets, the SUV will be available with three different engine options: 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol, 3.6-litre naturally aspirated V6 and a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel. The turbocharged petrol engine is all-new and develops a maximum of 270 Bhp – 400 Nm. It gets a new 8-speed transmission. It also gets a mild hybrid system to improve the fuel efficiency. The naturally aspirated petrol engine develops 285 Bhp – 352 Nm and gets a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic. The diesel engine produces a maximum of 260 Bhp and 598 Nm.
Like the current generation of the Wrangler, the fourth generation SUV will be made in the USA and will be imported to India as a CBU. The specifications of India-bound SUV are not known yet.
