The KTM Duke 200 now looks a lot like the KTM Duke 390. We are saying this as the 2018 Duke 200 that has been showcased at the Indonesia International Motor Show has a 390-like side-mounted exhaust. Other than this, there is no other change in the motorcycle’s appearance or specifications.
The Indonesia-spec KTM Duke 200 is made in India and is exported to the island country. The Indonesia-spec model is lighter than the Indian version by a full 4.5 kgs. This is due to the fact that the India-spec version comes with larger alloy wheels. The new exhaust for the Duke 200 carries a new catalytic converter. The new exhaust will help the Duke 200 comply with stricter emission norms. It may be noted here that both the Duke 250 and the Duke 390 come with a side-mounted exhaust. And now, thanks to the new exhaust system, the Duke 200 has started looking like the Duke 390.
The KTM Duke 200, Duke 250, and Duke 390 motorcycles are made in India by Bajaj at its Chakan factory near Pune. Actually, India is the global production hub for these motorcycles. Now that the updated Duke 200 has been displayed in Indonesia, it’s only a matter of time before it makes it to our market as well. While the new exhaust system will make the Duke 200 look a lot more like its elder cousin, there are good chances that it will lose the distinctive exhaust note that it’s known for.
The KTM Duke 200 is currently on sale at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.5 lakh. We don’t think the updated model would cost much more. Powering the Duke 200 is a 200cc, four-stroke, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine that outputs a peak power of 25 Bhp along with a peak torque of 19 Nm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. It gets upside down front forks and a monoshock at the rear. The motorcycle also gets disc brakes on both the wheels. KTM is also expected to add ABS to the Duke 200’s features list. The motorcycle has a top speed of 135 Kmph.
