Mahindra is planning to give the XUV500 a facelift next year. Here are the first spyshots of the facelifted model, which was spied testing with the S201 (Tivoli derived compact SUV) and the TUV300 Plus (Xylo replacement MUV). Details about the changes on the facelifted XUV are not very clear yet but there are some things that the new vehicle is expected to offer, as mentioned in previous media reports.
One important change is a higher state of tune for the mHawk turbocharged diesel engine. This 2.2 liter engine produces 140 Bhp and 330 Nm on the current XUV. But the Jeep Compass’s launch earlier this year has made this output look unimpressive to buyers. Mahindra will give the engine a new 170 Bhp-400 Nm state of tune, and this has been reported multiple times in the past. The facelifted model is expected to get this key change.
The chance of this happening has just become higher as Mahindra will soon launch the Scorpio with the 140 Bhp-330 Nm state of tune. Since the XUV500 is the flagship vehicle from Mahindra, the company will have to increase outputs to differentiate the vehicle from the Scorpio. The spyshots also show us a revised alloy wheel design. Apart from these changes, expect minor design updates to the front and rear of the facelifted model.
The interiors may get additional features. This being said, the XUV500 is already a well equipped car and the feature additions may not be extensive. The front wheel drive and all wheel drive layouts will be retained on the facelifted model as well, along with 6 speed manual and automatic transmission options.
Mahindra may showcase the new model at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. The company also is considering a coupe crossover version of the XUV500 for the Indian market. Called the Aero, this vehicle was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. We may get to see a production ready model next year.
