Maruti Suzuki will launch the all-new 2018 Ertiga MPV in India during the festive season this year, which begins around August and goes on till early November. For the first time in the Ertiga’s history in the Indian market, the MPV will have a butch, crossoverish sibling. Let’s call it the Ertiga Cross for now considering that Maruti Suzuki has yet to give the new derivative of the 2018 Ertiga a name. The Ertiga Cross will arrive 6 months after the all-new, 2018 Ertiga. This means that we can expect the butch sibling of the all-new MPV to hit Indian roads sometime in March 2019.
While the Ertiga Cross is yet to be officially revealed, a render that surfaced a couple of days ago shows that it’ll have crossoverish elements such as revised front and rear bumpers, butch cladding on the sides and perhaps a slight boost in ground clearance. Looks apart, not much is likely to change on the Ertiga Cross when compared with the all-new, 2018 MPV. It’ll continue to use the new HEARTECT platform that underpins the 2018 Ertiga, along with the same interiors, features and even engines. The Ertiga Cross is expected to command a premium between Rs. 30,000 to 40,000 over the regular model, variant to variant.
The Ertiga Cross will be mechanically similar to the all-new 2018 Ertiga. What this means is the petrol engine will be the 1.5- litre K-Series unit with 106 PS and 140 Nm. There’s not much clarity about the diesel engine for now. Taking an educated guess, we’re assuming that Maruti will either use the newly developed 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that’ll also make it to the facelifted Ciaz, or will continue offering the 1.3-litre Fiat Multijet diesel that’s already on duty in the current Ertiga. The petrol engine gets 5-speed manual and 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox options. The diesel could get 5/6-speed manual gearbox options as standard.
