2018 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Cross: New render surfaces

A brand new render of the all-new 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has surfaced, giving us a glimpse of what the Cross will look like. The MPV’s regular version was unveiled at the Indonesia International Motor Show a couple of weeks ago, and the butch-looking Cross variant will follow early next year. While Maruti Suzuki will launch the all-new, 2018 Ertiga MPV in India later this year, the Ertiga Cross will arrive sometime next year, before March. The Maruti Ertiga Cross will share most parts with the regular Ertiga MPV, but will have revised styling. It’s also likely to be priced slightly higher than the regular MPV.

As for styling, the new Ertiga Cross is expected to get a new front bumper with a contrast grey garnish emphasizing the difference, body cladding on the sides, blacked out wing mirrors, A-pillars and roof, roof rails and new alloy wheels. The rear bumper is also likely to get an insert, finishing off the crossover-ish look.

The interiors are likely to be unchanged from the regular Ertiga MPV. Features too are likely to be carried over from the regular 2018 Ertiga. However, Maruti may endow the Ertiga Cross with stiffer suspension and slightly higher ground clearance to justify its ‘crossoverish’ look.

Like the new Ertiga, the Cross version is based on the HEARTECT platform. This platform reduces kerb weight by using high-tensile steel. The reduced kerb weight does not come at the expense of the strength of the body. The lower kerb weight helps in improving fuel efficiency and maximising pick-up.

The new Ertiga Cross will use petrol and turbocharged diesel engines, in the Indian market. The petrol engine is a new 1.5-litre K-Series unit with 106 PS and 138 Nm on tap. The vehicle will offer 5-speed manual and 4-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes. The diesel engine will either be the 1.3-litre Fiat Multijet unit with 89 Bhp-200 Nm or a brand new, 1.5-litre turbocharged unit developed by Suzuki.
