2018 Volvo XC60 luxury SUV launch date announced for India

The 2nd generation Volvo XC60 luxury SUV will be launched in India on the 12th of December, 2017. The vehicle will be assembled in India, at Volvo’s factory near Bengaluru. The 2018 XC60 will take the completely knocked down (CKD) route into India, which will allow Volvo to price the vehicle competitively due to the lower import duties involved. The XC90 is based on the Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), a platform it shares with the larger XC90 SUV, the S90 luxury sedan and the V90 station wagon. In styling terms, the new Volvo has many similarities to the larger XC90.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport, Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC are the various rivals of the new Volvo. We expect the 2018 XC60 to be priced lower than all these SUVs as Volvo typically undercuts competition. The new SUV is expected to be available in a single, top-end trim called Inscription.

It will feature 19 inch alloy wheels, air suspension with multiple driving modes, a Bowers & Wilkins stereo system, radar-based safety system that Volvo is well known for, and Nappa leather wrapped interiors to give buyers a feel of luxury.

A 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder D5 turbocharged diesel engine is likely to power this SUV. This engine produces 232 Bhp of peak power at 4,000 rpm and 480 Nm of peak torque between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm. An 8 speed automatic transmission could be offered with this engine.

An all wheel drive layout is also expected to be standard on this SUV. After a few months, Volvo may add a turbocharged petrol engine to the XC60 but at launch, only the diesel engine is likely to be offered. Expect prices of the 2018, all-new Volvo XC60 luxury SUV to start from Rs. Rs. 40-42 lakhs. At this price level, it’ll be the lowest priced luxury SUV in its segment, delivering excellent value for money.
