2019 Bajaj Dominar caught on test; chased by KTM 390 Duke

Bajaj has been testing the new Dominar for a long time now and the upcoming bike has been caught testing for several times on the roads. Bajaj Dominar has been spotted under heavy camouflage but the unique shape of the bike gives away its identity.

The video has been taken from a new-generation KTM 390 Duke, which followed the under-test bike for a long time. The KTM 390 Duke can be seen reaching high speed in order to catch the test bike but we are not sure if the Bajaj Dominar was doing such high-speeds on the roads. Even though the video says that the Dominar 400 under test is faster than the KTM 390 Duke, we believe otherwise. The KTM 390 Duke can be seen slowing down to around 60-70 km/h when the Dominar 400 accelerated. The KTM 390 rider was not as aggressive on his bike. It should be noted that the 390 Duke is one of the quickest bikes in the segment and can leave the Dominar 400 far behind in a drag race. Even though both the bikes use the same engine block, the Dominar 400 is designed to be a touring bike while the KTM 390 Duke is much more aggressive and is designed as a street and track bike.

The upcoming Bajaj Dominar 400 would get a few cosmetic updates in the new form. The test bike has been caught with a new exhaust system, Upside Down forks, new alloy wheels finished in black, new rearview mirrors and a few other changes. Mechanically, the upcoming version of the Dominar is expected to remain identical to the current version of the bike.

Other changes may include an updated instrument cluster that would show detailed information like distance to empty, fuel consumption, average speed and much more. There would be a secondary display on the tank that shows the gear position of the bike. It may even get Bluetooth connectivity like the KTM 390 Duke but the display remains monochrome unlike the full-colour TFT display of the KTM 390 Duke. Other cosmetic changes include a new leg guard, steel braided brake cable and updates here and there.

The updated Bajaj Dominar 400 would continue to get the same 373.5cc engine that powers the current version of the bike. It produces a maximum of 34.5 Bhp of power and 35 Nm of torque, which is expected to remain unchanged. However, Bajaj maybe working to tweak the engine to make it BS VI ready as the stricter emission compliance norms will be applicable in the Indian market soon. Bajaj Dominar 400 is a touring bike and takes on the likes of Yamaha FZ25 in the market. However, Bajaj targets the Royal Enfield Classic range and have also released a few advertisements in the past targeting the vintage cruiser.  With the updates, the price of the Dominar is expected to increase by a few thousand too but it will remain
