Maruti Suzuki is just about to launch the all-new WagonR in India. The car is based on the HEARTECT platform that it shares with the Maruti Swift, Dzire and Baleno. The new WagonR is larger, more powerful and also gets a slew of new features. Of course, the design is also all-new. The WagonR will rival the Hyundai Santro and the Tata Tiago in India’s budget hatchback segment. The car gets a tall-boy design, just like the outgoing model. This design will allow for airy interiors – something that the WagonR has always been known for right from the first generation model. The new WagonR, being larger than the older version, offers more space for the passengers and also better luggage room.
The grapevine suggests that the starting price of the new Maruti WagonR will be around Rs. 4.3 lakhs, going all the way up to Rs. 5.8 lakhs. The exact price figures will be revealed during the launch. The new WagonR gets more powerful, with a 1.2 liter K-Series engine now available as an option. This is the same engine that’s on offer in the Swift and Baleno, and makes 82 Bhp-113 Nm. 5 speed manual and AMT options will be available with this engine.
