Czech car manufacturer Skoda had showcased a number of vehicles this year at the Auto Expo. Just like many other manufacturer in the country, Skod India has also decided to dump their diesel engine and concentrate more on petrol engines. Skoda has showcased the BS6 compliant Rapid mid-size sedan which will be launched officially once the ongoing nationwide lockdown is lifted. The Skoda Rapid BS6 competes with cars like Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna in the segment. Skoda has already started taking bookings for the Skoda Rapid TSI online. More details regarding the variants and the colour options of the Skoda Rapid TSI are now available.
The Skoda Rapid will be available in Active, Ambition, Onyx, Style and Monte Carlo variants. The Onyx variant which was offered as a limited edition variant is now standard in the BS6 version. The colour options that the soon to be launched Skoda Rapid will be getting are Candy White, Carbon Steel, Brilliant Silver, Toffee Brown, Lapiz Blue and Flashy Red. The main attraction or the big change in the 2020 Skoda Rapid is obviously the new 1.0 litre turbo petrol engine. The diesel engine as mentioned above has been dumped. The 1.0 litre turbo petrol engine in the Skoda Rapid is capable of generating 110 Ps of power and 175 Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Initially, Skoda will launch the Rapid with manual gearbox only. The new 6-speed automatic gearbox replaces the DSG gearbox that was offered in the car earlier. Both 1.6 litre petrol and 1.4 litre diesel that were available in the BS4 version has been discontinued. Apart from these changes, the Skoda Rapid remains pretty much the same in terms of design except for minor changes like a bigger 17 inch wheels for the Monte Carlo variant. It offers all the features that was available in the car before.
Skoda will also launch a mid-size SUV Karoq in the market soon after the launch of Rapid 1.0 TSI. Bookings for Karoq have also started. The 1.0 litre TSI engine in the Skoda Rapid is also available in Volkswagen Polo and Vento. The engine will get two gearbox options even on the Polo and Vento – a 6 speed manual and a 6 speed torque converter automatic. In fact, the Polo 1.0 TSI and Vento 1.0 TSI have already been launched by Volkswagen, and deliveries will begin once the Corona Virus lockdown is lifted.
