The Hyundai Elite i20 is the second best selling premium hatchback in India, giving tough competition to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno which is its chief rival. In order to give the model a boost and make it more attractive, Hyundai is currently working on the next generation Elite i20. Now, the new generation model has been spotted testing for the first time ever. The spy shots of the car by Indian Autos Blog show how the car would turn out to be. Though heavily camouflaged, some of the design changes are visible in the images.
This test car was spotted while it was being tested along with the next-gen 2019 Hyundai Grand i10 near the Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur manufacturing plant. Going by the images, Hyundai seems to have maintained a similar silhouette as on the current generation car. However, design tweaks have made it sharper and grown-up aesthetically. Through the front fascia is not visible in these spy shots, we expect the car to sport a new grille as well as refreshed headlights which could be LED units, though only on the top variant.
The side profile, as well as the rear end design, matches the current model to a great extent. Some of the changes visible in these screenshots are the sleeker ORVMs, and updated bumper design. Like the front headlights, the tail lights are also likely to be full LED units. As for the interiors, Hyundai could go for an all-new design theme since it is a generation update and not a facelift. Moreover, Hyundai will want to step up the game due to the upcoming launch of the Tata Altroz. What could be expected from the interiors then is a larger touchscreen infotainment system which is likely to come with the Bluelink connectivity feature, updated instrument cluster as well as a new dashboard design.
The new Hyundai Elite i20 will be built on the updated version of the current car’s platform. As for the engines, no official details are out yet but expect it to come with the upgraded, BS-VI engine versions of the outgoing model. The petrol engine may come linked to a standard 5-speed MT or an optional CVT. The diesel engine will probably remain paired with a 6-speed MT. The new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 7-speed DCT could also possibly make an appearance on the new Hyundai Elite i20.
The current model on sale is the second generation model which was launched back in 2014 here. Therefore, it is the right time for Hyundai to start working on the new generation model. as of the launch date of this car, it is expected that the car will be here by mid-2020.
