2020 all-new Hyundai i20: Engine, variant & transmission options explained!

Hyundai has revealed the variants, engine and the gearbox options ahead of 2020 i20’s launch, which is scheduled to launch on November 5. Hyundai has already started accepting bookings for the new-gen i20 for an amount of Rs. 21,000.

2020 Hyundai i20 will be available in two petrol and one diesel engine options. There is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. All the engines are derived from the Hyundai Venue. 

Engines and transmissions

The 1.2-litre petrol engine will produce 83 PS of peak power and 114 Nm of peak tprque while the more powerful 1.0-litre turbo petrol will be producing 120 PS of peak power and 172 Nm of peak torque. Then, there is the 1.5-litre diesel engine which will be churning out 100 PS of peak power and 240 Nm of peak torque. The naturally aspirated petrol engine will be available with a manual gearbox or CVT automatic gearbox and the turbo-petrol will be available with iMT (clutchless-manual) or a Dual-Clutch Automatic Transmission.



The 2020 Hyundai i20 will be available in 4 variants, namely Magna, Sportz, Asta and Asta (O). The naturally aspirated petrol engine with a manual gearbox will be available with all the variants while the CVT variant will only be offered with Sportz and Asta. The turbo-petrol with the iMT will be available with Sportz and Asta while the DCT gearbox will be offered with the Asta and Asta(O). Then, there is the diesel engine which is offered with all the trim levels except the Asta.



Not much is known about the equipment that will be offered with the i20 but from the spy shots, we know that it will feature a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay which will be connected to a Bose sound system. The top-end variant will also feature a digital instrument cluster, sunroof, air purifier, rear AC vents and much more. 

The 2020 Hyundai i20 is expected to start from Rs. 5.5 lakhs ex-showroom and go all the way up to Rs. 10 lakhs ex-showroom. It will be competing against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz, Toyota Glanza and Honda Jazz. The all-new i20 is the third generation of the car that Hyundai will be selling in India. The first two generations of the i20 have been mega hits for the South Korean automaker. Hyundai will be hoping that the new i20 also turns out to be a hot seller.
