2020 Kia Sonet vs 2021 Sonet: What has changed

Kia Motors launched their first product, Seltos in our market in 2019. The SUV quickly became popular among buyers for several reasons. Last year, they showcased their next product that was being manufactured in India. The Sonet concept actually grabbed a lot attention for its design and Kia managed to retain most of the elements in the production version as well.This response from customers is overwhelming and there is a long waiting period for the SUV now.

Kia had recently announced their new brand strategy for Indian market and also launched the refreshed models of Kia Seltos and Sonet in the market. Here we have a video that shows what all has changed in 2021 Kia Sonet when compared with 2020 model.

The video has been uploaded by Aj CaarYaar on theit YouTube channel. The vlogger talks about all the changes that are there in the 2021 Kia Sonet. Starting with the variants, Kia discontinued The HTK Plus 1.0 Petrol DCT and the HTK Plus 1.5 diesel AT and replaced it with four new trims. Sonet now gets HTX 1.0 petrol iMT, HTX 1.5 diesel MT, HTX 1.0 DCT petrol and HTX 1.5 diesel AT.

Kia is also offering more features in the Sonet. The HTX variant now gets features like traction control, dual tone alloy wheels instead of silver finished alloy wheels. The HTX DCT variant gets Hill Climb Assist Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Electronic Stability Control and driving modes.

Some of the features that were earlier available with higher variants are now available with lower variants too. Features like electric sunroof, Smart Key, Push Button start, remote engine start, chrome door handles, silver wheel caps are now available with lower variants too. The HTX DCT, GTX+ DCT, HTX AT (diesel) and GTX+ AT (diesel) now get paddle shifters. Kia also offers manual sunshade curtain to rear passengers on HTX, HTX+ and GTX+ trims. Apart from this main difference on the Kia Sonet is the logo. 2021 version of Kia Sonet comes with the new logo.

Apart from that, Sonet continues to offer all the the features that were already available with the SUV. It continues to be powered by the same set of engine options. There are two petrol and one diesel engine on offer. There is a 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which comes with a manual gearbox option only. This engine generates 83 Ps and 115 Nm of torque. There is a 1.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine option on offer as well. This engine is available with iMT and a 7-speed DCT gearbox option. It generates a maximum of 120 Ps and 172 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine on offer is a 1.5 litre turbocharged unit. The SUV is available with both manual and automatic gearbox options. The manual version generates 100 Ps and 240 Nm of torque whereas the automatic version generates 115 Ps and 250 Nm of peak torque.

Price for the 2021 Kia Sonet starts at Rs 6.79 lakh, ex-showroom and go up to Rs 13.25 lakh, ex-showroom. Kia Sonet competes with SUVs like Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and Ford EcoSport in the segment.
