New render of 2020 Mahindra Scorpio SUV shows off its curvy bits

Testing of the all-new, next-generation Mahindra Scorpio SUV has begun in full swing. New test mules, though camouflaged, now show the various design highlights of the new SUV. From one such spyshot of the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio, Gaadiwaadi has put together a speculative render showing what the new SUV will look like from the side. Here, check it out.

New render of 2020 Mahindra Scorpio SUV shows off its curvy bits

As the render indicates, the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio is likely to get curvier than before. The increase in length is quite apparent and the SUV seems to have lost a few millimeters in terms of height. The stance is now more squat than before thanks to the height reduction. Overall, the new SUV is expected to increase in size significantly.

From the looks of it, the tail lamps of the new Scorpio could dump the X’mas tree layout. The new vehicle continues to operate with the squarish wheel wells, which are characteristic of body-on-ladder SUVs. The 2020 Scorpio will continue to use a ladder frame but will have a brand new platform that it will share with the Mahindra Thar.

A seven seat layout will be retained, and front facing seats for all passengers could be offered. The mechanicals of the all-new Scorpio will also be totally new, and compliant with Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms. The engine of the SUV will be a newly developed, 2 liter turbocharged diesel unit with up to 160 Bhp of peak SUVpower, making it the most powerful iteration of the Scorpio ever built.

It’ll get 6 speed manual and torque converter automatic gearbox options. A four wheel drive layout will be offered on specific variants, along with a low and high range transfer case. The new Scorpio is also expected to have more safety features than before. More than 2 airbags are likely to be offered, with more electronic aids such as ESP and traction contorl.

On the inside, expect the new SUV to get a brand new design. The quality of interiors is likely to improve dramatically with better fit and finish all around. A lot of new feature additions are also expected given the way Mahindra introduces new generation vehicles. What remains to be seen though is if the new Scorpio gets a cut price version like the current model, mainly to serve the cab and rural markets of the country. Such a variant is highly likely to be offered considering the massive brand recall that the Mahindra Scorpio enjoys. What’s for certain is that the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio will get a price increase considering the new emission norms, the overall increase in size and premium-ness levels.
