Skoda had been teasing the Superb sedan since quite a long time now and finally, the Czech manufacturer has finally revealed the car. The sedan now looks sharper and gets a number of updates in order to take on its rivals. The Skoda Superb rivals the likes of the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry among others in India. Skoda has also introduced a plug-in hybrid system on the facelifted Superb which makes it more fuel efficient as well as powerful. The interiors have also been updated and feel quite premium now.
Talking about the design, the new headlights on the Superb are full LED units and get sequential turn indicators or matrix pattern indicators as they are popularly known as. The grille is wider and gets a chrome slab on top. The bumper design has also been updated and features LED lights on either end.
The side design is more or less the same. Coming to the rear, Sokda has tweaked a few elements here to make the car look smarter. This includes redesigned tail lights with a chrome bar running between them. The rear bumper is a revised unit with new exhaust outlets. Skoda has removed its logo from the boot lid and instead goe for bold lettering on the lid declaring its name.
The interiors have become plusher thanks to the new upholstery options and some chrome bits for the centre console and dashboard. The top end L&K trim gets Alcantara upholstery which further takes up the premium feel. The dashboard design has been updated too and now looks more upmarket. Skoda has also provided illuminated under-seat storage compartments for added convenience. The facelifted Superb will get over-the-air updates and comes with two new assistance systems. There are four cameras around the car providing a 360-degree view apart from a host of other new features.
Skoda has offered a slew of powertrain and gearbox options with the Superb, including the plug-in hybrid one. The petrol engines on offer include the 1.5-litre TSI motor that puts out 150 Bhp of power and comes mated with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG box. Next is a 2.0-litre TSI engine that is offered in two tunes, one producing 190 Bhp while the higher tune variant producing 272 Bhp. Both come mated to the 7-speed DSG gearbox but the higher tuned engine variant also get all-wheel drive.
Talking about the diesel engine on offer, there is a 1.6-litre TDI diesel engine that produces 120 Bhp of power and comes mated to the 7-speed DSG gearbox. The other engine is a 2.0-litre TDI Evo which pumps out 150 Bhp of power and is available with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG. A lower tuned variant of this engine is also available that puts out 190 Bhp and comes mated to the DSG transmission along with having an option of an all-wheel drive. The plug-in hybrid variant is powered by a 1.4-litre TSI that puts out 156 Bhp of power along with an electric motor that can add about 115 Bhp power. This engine is mated to a 6-speed DSG gearbox. The car gets a 13 kWh battery pack that can deliver a range of 55 km solely on electric power.
