Mahindra has just launched a new entry-level variant for the Scorpio known as S3+. Earlier, the Scorpio started from S5 variant which served as the base variant. Mahindra Scorpio S3+ variant is priced at Rs. 11.99 lakhs ex-showroom which is Rs. 69,000 less than the S5 variant. The new less expensive variant should help Mahindra in attracting more people towards the Scorpio. Being the new base variant the S3+ does miss out on quite a bit of equipment. The new variant is offered in 7 and 9 seater options.
The S3+ variant does come with follow-me-home headlamps, LED tail lamps and a bonnet scoop. It does miss out on painted outside rearview mirrors and outside door handles. There is also no plastic cladding and sidestep to enter the SUV easily. It gets 17-inch silver steel wheels with 235/65-section tyres. For the interior, the S3+ variant comes with vinyl upholstery, but it does come with power windows and tilt-adjustment for steering. It does not get auto door lock feature, big bottle holders and cup holders. There is still some safety equipment offered by Mahindra. Scorpio S3+ comes with dual airbags, seat belt reminder, speed alerts, intellipark, ABS with EBD and panic brake indication.

The SUV comes with a detuned version of the 2.2-litre, a four-cylinder mHawk diesel engine which comes with micro-hybrid technology. The engine produces 120 PS of max power at 4,000 rpm and a peak torque output of 280 Nm from 1,800-2,800 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The higher variants, namely S5, S7, S9 and S11 gets a more powerful tune of the same 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. It produces 140 PS of max power and 320 Nm of peak torque. It also comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox instead of a 5-speed.
This might be the last update that Mahindra gave to the Scorpio. This is because there is an all-new generation that will soon be launched by Mahindra. The new SUV is expected to get launched in second-half of 2021 and it was spied recently. You can read more about it by clicking here. The 2021 Scorpio will be based on re-worked ladder frame chassis which will help in improving ride quality and handling of the SUV. The new SUV is much larger in dimensions than the outgoing one. So, it is much wider and longer which should help in liberating more cabin space. All the body panels would be new for the 2021 Scorpio. Mahindra will be using new sets of engines that were launched with the Thar. There will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged, direct-injection mStallion petrol engine and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. Both the engines will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic torque converter gearbox. However, the engine will be tuned to produce more power and torque than the Thar because Scorpio is a much bigger vehicle. It should primarily be a rear-wheel-drive vehicle just like the current Scorpio while higher variants will get a 4×4 system. Mahindra 2021 Scorpio is expected to start from Rs. 12 lakhs ex-showroom.
